PostMon Aug 02, 2004 2:13 pm    Tucker as First Officer?

Do you think that if T'Pol wasn't given the first officer position that Trip would have been given it. Tucker is the Head Engineer and really can't manage XO and Engineer at the same time, would there have been another officer or not?

Good question. I think they may have brought someone else in for that. Trip would make a pretty good XO though.

I think he might. But is there someone else with a higher rank? I don't think there is because Trip's the one who has dinner with Archer and T'Pol. So I think he might have been First officer if T'Pol wasn't there

Trip has the rank of commander. Look at his pips.

If T'Pol died in the Expanse Tucker would be both Head Engineer and XO, HE can't leave Engineering when they were in the expanse to do command, just think of Similitude to know why. They need tucker as Main Engineer. If T'Pol died when they were in season one... It would be a good question then.

I wonder what they would do then? They could make someone else head Engineer

If Tucker was the XO, would be pretty nice. Not a large difference, though

Considering that Trip is second officer, and becomes captain in that one alternate timeline, he is after T'Pol, definetly.

((This may have been so off topic, as I am tired, that is what I understand the topic to be))

The position could have gone to Reed. Although he is the Tactical Officer, he also happens to be a regular bridge officer.

The engines are not something Tucker could just conveniently leave to his staff while he worked up in the bridge. The engines often require his direct supervision, thus he stays down there.

Along the same lines, Reed has to be around for security stuff.

But you see, whoever got promoted, could easily have a lesser officer replace them in that position. Although I think youre right about Reed.

It's quite strange cuz T'Pol is the science officer and the first officer but and she has the vulcan rank of Sub Commander and Trip is commander. It is quite wierd when they have vulcan & starfleet ranks on the same ship.

I think he would be first officer though...just not spend much time on the bridge

I think he would get bored as first officer, whereas chief engineer always has something to do.
