Quote:
Well on this, I will say that it is really religion that makes me absolutly sure that I am against it. Every human's life is valuable no matter how lowly they are. And there is always a chance that a person can change. Life in prison is cheaper for the tax-payer, and I just do not think that it is necessary since life in prision will keep everyone safe, and therefore, makes capital punishment not necessary to ensure safety. If you can avoid taking a human's life, I think it should be avoided.

What does everybody else think? Death penalty good or bad?

Noooo no death penalty! It's totally wrong to kill! Allways! even murderers. If you kill them, then You are no better then they are.
(Ok fluffies are occasionally ok to kill )

Well, I strongly believe in life prison sentences, but some people are so damn *beep* up...I think that the government doesnt want to deal with some people, so they offer them up to die.

Here are arguments from both sides, to help you decide:

It is rather extensive, but if you wanna read it...

I definitely support it. Only when there is a GREAT deal of evidence against the person, though, of course.

Capital Punishment, in my belief, is case-sensitive.
If the person is a terrorist or mass murderer, then I condone it.
Otherwise I pretty much don't--instead they should have to serve the rest of their days in a Penitentiery or whatever you call it up in Alaska where they are forced to mine oil and only have a cot, bathroom, and get bread and water for their meals--no TV, no tennis courts, nothing of the sort for hard-core criminals.

Yes, jails nowadays are so relaxed. People get the chance to have jobs and watch TV and all. They arent there to enjoy prison, they are there to be removed from society!

Capital Punishment is wrong in my opinion, no matter what the case.

And for those who are undecided, it is cheaper for tax-payers if a criminal is put in prison for life than if they decide to go after the death penalty.

I'm with you here. I just don't know.

On one hand they really do have it coming, but on the other, with all the court costs; ect... it might not be worth the trouble.

I am pro DP in a moral sence, but I just don't find it economical.

Well, it just seems like the lazy mans way out, but I suppose some people are just destined to not change. But then it comes to the question of who is really qualified to make that decision?

Im going to say no. As long as you torture the prisoner who deserves the life sentence. Im not joking about that BTW.

Agreed. Its time to get back to the old ways, if you know what I mean. they need to be harder on the prisoners.

Really? How so? You would think killing a person and getting it done would be cheaper than providing food and clothers day in and day out.

Capital cases are much more expensive than life in prision because they go under MUCH more scrutiny.

I'm all for Capital Punishment, and there is a reason behind it. It's mainly personal, but here it goes.

A few years ago my Friend's Mother, Sister and his nephew were gunned down by his ex-stepfather, who was a raving lunitic that the police did nothing about.

His mother and sister were both killed, his nephew was shot through the cheek, He survived after extensive surgery.

His Ex-Stepfather was charged and Sentenced to life in prison with no chance of Parole. This bas*ard was getting to live while my Friend had to suffer through Funerals then having to move away from all of his friends.

About a year ago the murderer hung himself in his cell.... Call it Irony because we all wanted him dead, and he got to live. Jut when we were living with it, he dies...

I have no problem with capital punisment, as long as the crime was severe enough to warrant it.

I am for capital punishment. If there is enough proof to prove someone killed someone they deserve to die or if the admit they did it they should also die and not be given lesser punishment for telling the truth you kill someone you deserve to die. I also think other offenses should be more severe then they are like i know for one here that people that get caught making or doing meth get a small fine and a week or 2 in prision usually ut oh if they rat out someone else that does it they are let go and sometimes even dont have to pay the fine! it is easier for people to get out of punishment for doing meth and other drugs here then it is to get out of a speeding ticket when u are 3 mph over the limit! to me this is just madness and in a way saying drus really arent that bad in my opinion but that may be a little of topic...anyway if it can be proven that some one killed someone else and there is no doubts at all about it they should be killed to just the way it should be....plus give them a life sentence that would be umm givening them free food and living for free their whole life yea so they dont have much freedom but still its just messed up and to some people it may be worth killing someone just to get a life sentece since maybe they have no way to get enough food to eat and may not have a home to go to

I'm not for capital punishment. I dont believe in "an eye for an eye" sort of justification.

I'm against it. Put it this way: If Capital Punishment is such a punishment, why are there so many suicides in prisons?

Good point, but terrorists that kill civilians, for instance, do not deserve to live.

And for those of you that are anti-capital punishment: You don't believe that terrorists like bin Laden deserve such punishment?

I also think it depends on the person and their crime. Prison should definatly be harder though, although not as hard as it used to be. It's too expensive with not much for society and the conditions are really good. Living in prison is better than a number of peoples homes in very poor areas and a lot of the world. The problem with terrorists (muslim ones anyway) is that if they die they don't care as they believe they are going to a place with loads of good looking virgins etc and it will be great. They also become maytrs.
