MILWAUKEE � Teresa Heinz Kerry (search), the outspoken wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (search), told a rally Monday evening exactly what she thinks of the prospect of a second Bush term.
With a Bush supporter chanting "Four more years! Four more years!" through a bullhorn from the back of a park, the candidate's wife stopped herself to respond. "They want four more years of hell," Heinz Kerry said.
The pro-Kerry crowd erupted in applause and began its own chant: "Three more months! Three more months."
Heinz Kerry quieted the audience so she could continue her remarks, which touched on her life, her husband and the importance of getting involved in political causes.
Kerry gave her a long hug and a big smile when she finished.
"She speaks her mind, and she speaks the truth, and she's pretty quick on her feet, too," Kerry said.
The Bush supporter didn't back down.
"Bush, Cheney! Bush, Cheney!" he said as Kerry started to speak.
At nearly every stop during the first days of Kerry's coast-to-coast tour, the candidate has praised his wife's tendency to speak her mind.
Last week, during the Democratic nominating convention in Boston, she told a persistent reporter to "shove it" and to stop misquoting her when he repeatedly asked her to expand on her call for more civility in politics.

I don't know how I feel about this... I have dealt with the press... and they are not exactly fun to play with... and I imagine I could lose my temper too...

Yes, but if you are choosing to put yourself in a position where you know you have to be gracious 99.9% of the time, you'd ought to learn some semblance of control. Heinz-Kerry seems to be one of the more crass potential first ladies I've ever seen. Even Hilary had some class.

I can't disagree with you here. It is extremely difficult, however, to maintain control of yourself with a reporter in your face... try it sometime.

This is when she was 17? So it'd be quite awhile ago. I'm not surprised there were no files charged, given her status in the community, or rather, her family's. I'm actually surprised that this was made a matter of public record, given she was a juvenile at the time of the accident. Running a stop sign is at best a misdemeanor, and I'm not sure about the manslaughter laws that long ago, I know they have been revamped somewhat in the last 20 years.

Just out of curiosity, how do you feel about juvenile crime? Do you not think that a 15 year old boy (for example) should be held accountable for a crime he has committed, especially murder?

Never said it was ok,  Just a reason. I've run red lights before, no, no one died, but it was a possibility.
And I think many juveniles who are quite aware of what they did are let off, and that is wrong.

But, on topic: I don't think it is right to criticize someone for speaking their mind, even if is in such an inarticulate way as "shove it."

I'd have to disagree. 2 years ago when I was working where I am now, my boss was not the mayor, and said all kinds of rude things to anyone. Now that he is mayor, and holds a public office, he's had to control himself more. (Not that he's not still obscene when customers aren't around). But when what you say and do will directly reflect an entire nation, you need to display better self control.

Thats awesome though. We should have someone who isnt afraid to speak out, especially during election time. At least shes not trying to please people outright.

Yes, of course. And you know what--I do think that she doesn't want Kerry to be President--she doesn't want to give up her life.
I can't disagree with you here. It is extremely difficult, however, to maintain control of yourself with a reporter in your face... try it sometime.
Still. That doesn't mean that you should say, "Shove it!" when he's trying to ask you to clarify a statement.

That was when she was 17, okay, a LONG time ago, and she was NOT running for first lady then. She wasn't even married to Bush.

Yes, they should be charged for a crime, just not as harsh a punishment.

Agreed. When you are in, or are running, for a position like a First Lady, President, or Mayor, etc, you HAVE to control your actions.

Mad TV magazine had a page with a picture of Dick Cheney like the Operation game with cutouts of body parts and it discussed several different horrible things about him. My teacher and other students called it a "Joke." Well, I don't give a damn if it's in Mad TV. It's an ATTACK on a sitting vice-President

You don't do something like that to a SITTING VICE-PRESIDENT, and one who has heart problems no less. There is ABSOLUTLY NO EXCUSE FOR THAT.
