^I don't belive in any god, (well I have my gods; eddie izzard and such but not a GOD god...) I think it's healthy to belive in God thou. Cuz then you don't have to go around and think about the things you cant explain... Wish I had something like that to belive in.

Funny, eh?
Sorry I still don't get it why cant a doctor cure?
And that thing about the doctors and athlets not living as long as a regulare couch potato, I'm not sure about. I am very sceptical about statistics. Are the couch potatoes you mention the population in general or just the... "couch potatoes" (btw funny word )

*ahem* Not thinking about unexplainable things??? Watch it. I'm Christian, too, AND I'm a scientist. (I say this is all good humor, but I'm also serious)

If everyone were cured, there'd be a lot less need for doctors, and insurance. This is why in animals, we're more into PREVENTING diseases, than anything. Ever heard of blue cross, blue shield, medicare for a cow? NAH! Hamburger would be sticker-shock.

Couch potatoes, I mean the average person. Of course. And, by the way, the statistics are from GAMA (German/American Meical Association) the most prestigious medical association possibly in the world, as well as Time Magazine. And look at some obituaries, sometime. They're interesting. The greatest Cardiologist in the world, the reported best of them all--what'd he die of? HEART ATTACK! I'm sorry, but this amused me. Look up some obituaries yourself, really, if you want to check me out. I'll go get those statistics if ya' want 'em, too, but I'll readily swear by 'em.

If cows had doctors as bad as some of the human doctors.... a hamburger would be a "minor flesh wound"

Take Jamaica for example, the doctors are as good as useless, give a child on heroin a scalpal and he'll do a better job, j/k, but they aren't great

Ok NOW I do understand Thx! But I still don't belive in statstics thou. Too many ways you can change it to make it in your favor. No offens I just Never trust stastistics. I really like statistics, but I don't trust 'em.

Cool beeing a scientist and religious. I'm a scientist and a filosopher... kind of the same thing... anyway, i think it's true that thing about don't have to worry about the things you dont know -the unexplainable things. Sometime when I was really really scared I wanted to belive in god. Not having to think about the unknown and the future, cuz god would help you... You do understand what I mean... don't you?

Still with the statistics...you can go individually over doctors yourself. In a newspaper, what have you. Online. It's much fun, really. Anyhow...

Yeah, I see what you mean as 'Not thinking about the unknown'. However, I like to find explanations for these things, anyway. I don't accept something as 'Unexplainable,' no matter what it is. And if I can explain something through science, I will, as I would have a problem agreeing with a religion that doesn't accept science.

Can I just say a personal thank you to EVERYONE who has replied to this topic? I wasn't expecting 34 replies-thanks again, folks.

It's all useful stuff and I've learnt a few things I didn't know.

I went for a 6 mile walk today and I haven't had ONE piece of junk food today. I feel great. But I know that the work is only just beginning.

Like I said, I'm not fat, just slightly overweight and I've been neglecting fruit, vegetables and meat these last couple of years.

Hopefully, when I'm 30 in a few months, there will be some sort of improvement that is noticeable. I don't want the body of Superman but I want to be healthy and do as much as I can to ensure I live a relatively long life.

Looking at this topic, I really do think governments, government organisations and other institutions should do more to endorse healthy living. Because they don't, at least not here in England.

Ok, here is my opinion on things.

No matter if you are the healthier person on earth you can still have an heart attack and die young even though you eat healthy. My cousin was young ,she ate right no junk food all health food, or no sodas. She died at age 22 of an heart attack so arguing on what is best way to eat hog wash.
If it is your time to go, you gonna go rather you want to or not. You just try to make the right choices. I am starting to eat right and lay off sodas and drink more water. But doesn't mean I will die.

Midlife crisis? How dare you?

Don't you mean Quarterlife Crisis? Hey, is 29 that old? When I'm 30 (which will be soon), I plan on staying 30. Yes, I want to be eternally 30, like a cartoon character or comic book character.

I have had a good start and things are good. I haven't had any fast food since I posted. I guess you're right-things do become a habit after awhile.

1.) How much should I weigh? I'm not obese but I think I am slightly overweight, maybe. I'm 6 ft and I currently weigh around 225 pounds. There's no visible fat on my body, I'm pretty well-built. But I think I should trim down a little. As someone who is 6ft, how much do you all think I should weigh?

For someone around 6ft tall, and well built, 215lbs is a good weight, but 225 isn't exactly overweight. It depends on how muscular you are. Muscle weighs more than fat.

2.) Water. How much of it would you recommend a day? Should I drink bottled or tap. Tap water in my hometown is the best in the country but is bottled water better?

If you have good tap, drink it, as for how much, 64oz is good.

3.) Fruit. What are the best fruits? I like most fruits (apart from banana's and pears). What do you think are the best ones to eat? Which ones are best for the skin? Are there any that are good for one's eyes?

apples are awesome all around

4.) Meat. Is it good for you? I usually eat chicken, steak or beef. Are they good for you? If so, how many times a week should I eat them?

Chicken is healthiest and red meat is god in moderation

5.) Is a brisk walk good for you? How far should I walk and how often?

I like a mile a day

I usually drink three or four bottles of water a day, and it's still not as much as I should. even though we have really great tasing water in Colorado, I've been spoiled by Aquafina and purified stuff. it tastes a lot better. when you get used to it, tap just doesn't live up

I get a balanced diet every day like this... a big bowl of organic minnestroni soup for lunch, with 7 grain crackers and a glass of milk. look, vegitables, protein from beans (what you get from meat), grains, and dairy are all taken care of already. For fruit, I get a Jamba juice. they're healthy and good. have a glass of red wine with a balanced dinner.

Any kind of exercise is great. Walking, brisk walking, or especially a good workout routine. I go to the Y two or three days a week. I bike for 30 minutes, run a mile or two, and lift weights to tone. Then on the days where I don't go the the Y, I use a Tae Bo cardio work out video to keep in shape. When you don't feel like exercising, just remember how good it feels after you do. self control can go a long way. and every now and then, do fun stuff like rock climbing.

Thank you to those who keep posting replies.

Everythings going well. I started my new 'regime' properly on Saturday. I do feel good even though it's only been three days. I certainly feel a little healthier and my eyes feel better for some reason. Of course, most of what I am feeling could be psychosomatic. But things should improve.

Anyone else changed things a little after reading this post?

I've found a great way for losing weight- have a baby, breastfeed and get Post Natal Depression! You don't even want to eat, and every mouthful is torture

(Oh wait, this was about healthy methods, sorry about that )

If you're well built, and don't have any flabby bits, don't worry too much about weight. You'll know if your healthy because you'll feel good.

For exercise, little and often is the best policy (works well for meals, too ) start gently, and build it up. And you'll start to feel better as soon as you start, which should be an incentive to continue.

For eating, as I said before, little and often works. However, it's more about finding what's right for you. If you eat plenty of fruit of veg, and especially a variety, then you should get all the vitamins and minerals you need. Drink plenty of milk (along with water) and you've got a decent food there too. Meat is good, so long as you don't exclude other things. You need some carbohydrates, and wholemeal bread, or brown rice is better than the white varieties. Junk food is fine, as a treat, but not everyday

Water, about 2 litres (4 pints) is good for a normal day, up it to about 3 litres (6 pints) if you're doing heavy exercise. Don't drink too much though, or you could dehydrate yourself (if you dilute your blood too much, its harmful).

The best advice I can give you is just do what makes you feel good A healthy mind is a good start for a healthy body. And don't get depression

Well, I'm willing to try anything once. Damn, I'm a male, I can't get pregnant. LOL.

I feel good already. I just hope it pays off by my 30th birthday (which is creeping closer and closer).

Thanks for your tips, Seven.
