PostThu Jul 29, 2004 6:13 pm    Presidential Campaign

Convention Day 2 - 3

I just noticed how the Republicans are using a lot of negative ads against John Kerry.

(If you watch TV you might see one)

John Kerry and the Democrats are however running positive ads on TV rather than negative ads used by the Bush Campaign guys.

They are telling Americans how they are going to fix the economy and show us the economic problems we all face.

On the other President Bush is just laying out what John Kerry voted against and using it as a political tool to help him boost popularity.

As John Edwards said yesterday on the Democratic Convention...
( It shouldn't take 3 years to solve a problem on our Homeland Security and Economy. ) (Not Exact Words)

Ron Reagan on the Democratic Convention is pushing the need for further studys on stem cell research.

Barack Obama the Illnois State Senator made a speech the certainly caught everyones attention since it was a very positive motivational speech.

The Democratic Convention is putting more Positive words than Negative showing us that Democrats are not trying to win by using Negativity attacks on Republicans. They are merely telling Republicans what they are doing wrong and the solution to that problem.

This is common of republicans. They love to mudsling. Its in their nature.

Well guess what? The Democrats are CHANGING THEIR IMAGE TEMPORARILY. It's the Reinvention Convention. Their reinventing themselves to seem as though they are the positive people and are not attacking.

Ted Kennedy didn't say that Bush "concocted the war in Texas" again or that he lied.
Dennis Kucinich didn't say that he "assassinated civilians" again.
Howard Dean didn't advance the theory that Bush "knew about 9/11 ahead of time" again "and did nothing to stop it"
Al Gore didn't yell that Bush "Betrayed this country" and "played on our fears."

It's all reinvention. It's not the real them. And the Republicans are NOT attacking--they are defining Kerry before Kerry can re-define himself.

You've got it backwards. And oh--did you just stereotype?! Oh no!

Oh yes, Kerry is a great man. It breaks my heart that Bush is so mean.

Look both sides are guilty of "negativity". All I hear fromthe Democrats is "Bush should have done this." or "Bush is a liar." or"Republicans spread negativity while we preach positive debates." Thats all negativity too.

EXACTLY. Good points, as I was making. As I said, this is the "Reinvention Convention"

It looks like you're new here, because that was a joke. I was "stereotyping" before, said a Moderator, and then I was warned that I would get a warning. Read all the posts from all the topics at the top. (Top 7 or so) and you'll see what I mean.

And to the above statement: They are REINVENTING THEMSELVES (aside from Obama)

I don't understand... what is wrong with that? Is there something fundamentally wrong with recongnizing that you should change... and doing so?

Why are Republicans always attacking with Negative ads then?

When are the Republicans going to place an ad which says "This is how we are going to fix the economic problems."

It seems all the Republicans could say is "John Kerry voted against this thing so he is a bad person" Vote Bush Vote Bush Vote Bush John Kerry is bad. (You cannot say this isnt Negative at all)

( I Vote for John Kerry )

That would be because negativity generally gets more attention than constructive criticism.

History shows you that...

Why are Democrats doing the same? Answer that and I'll answer your question. Or do you mean to tell me that Democrats NEVER used anything negative? Are you sure your watching the Democratic convention? Because that would argue with you.

Okay, slow down sparky....

I never said that democrats don't do it.... You know I care so little that I don't even keep track anymore of who starts it...

It is just the way things are, and until the voters really throw a fit nothing will change about it.

Yelling and ranting and raving and negativity get more attention than being nice and cute and fluffy, wouldn't you agree?

True. People tend to notice the guy breakdancing at the party more than the wallflower who wont dance at all.

Sorry if I offended you...

Just trying to spark lively debate, and you see?? It worked.

Okay, at the convention they are NOT SHOWING WHO THEY REALLY ARE for political purposes, and that is WRONG. They are really attackers, etc. and are changing themselves for POLITICAL PURPOSES, and yet that is NOT who they really are. That's what's wrong.

We are DEFINING Kerry before he REDEFINES himself. They are not attack ads, and Bush has NOT said that he is a bad person. They are TELLING THE PEOPLE WHO KERRY IS. And don't worry, what you want will happen soon...

THEY are the one's who've been negative--even at the convention, just it's been lessened for horrible reasons--those people aren't showing who they really are while the convention is occuring.

That's the Democrats for you, though. But I don't agree with what they really are.

Just for the record, there are maybe a handful of politicians that I have met that are actually THEMSELVES, and not what we would want them to be... its politics.

Well, guess what:
Ted Kennedy, Al Gore, Howard Dean, Kucinich, and more are NOT themselves, especially Gore, at this convention.

I have not seen ONE campaign add at all. Of course....I live in Texas so they both probably figure that Bush is going to automatically win it.....the only way I see the adds is if I go and download them....I have not seen ANY on the TV.

Well, can you honestly say that many republican leaders are themselves?

Yes, BECAUSE they have not been going around rampaging or acting like something and then suddenly change their image. Of course, Gore's been yelling things out. "He betrayed this country! He played on our fears!" and that's how he and the other leaders of his party (which are left-wingers) have acted and they have "changed" (for the convention) for political reasons, and I have yet to see a Republican like that.

And I have seen almost ALL the Bush ads on TV (I think)...And yet I live in Colorado, a red state. Some of them define Kerry, some tell about what he's going to do.
