PostThu Jul 15, 2004 5:16 pm    Would you give a Young Kirk prequel a chance?

As an avid reader of Star Trek Magazine over the years, I've noticed so many people talking about how they'd like to see a Starfleet Academy series, with some people talking about how they'd like to see a series or mini-series, featuring a young Captain Kirk at the Academy.

Personally, I don't think such an idea could sustain a weekly TV series. However, I think the idea could work as a movie and it'd be something different.

Young Hercules was a modest success and deserved a longer run in my opinion. Smallville is doing really well and has really improved since it's first series. Prequels have been the in-thing these past several years.

If they make a Trek XI, I don't want to see another TNG movie. DSN could work but then again, maybe not. I don't see the need for a VOY movie. And ENT doesn't need to make the jump to the big screen yet.

Right now, there are only three possible plots I'd like to see in a new Trek movie...

Captain Sulu, U.S.S. Excelsior
Captain Riker, U.S.S. Titan
Starfleet Academy

If I had to pick, it would be the Starfleet Academy idea, featuring a young Kirk. What are your thoughts on this? What plots could you envision? Could such a movie work?

Looking forward to your views.

Maybe, because it wouldn't have Shatner, so I think I could stand to watch Kirk.

I would like to see a young kirk but it wouldn't be as good cuz william shatner wouldn't be in it.

If it was up to me then i would choose a movie about the excelsior but sulu and that lot are too old now

No. Ds9 is next in line. They deserve a movie. TOS got what? 6 or 7 movies? TNG got like 4? Ds9 could at least have ONE. Young Kirk? No. Why? ENT has hurt my wanting to see prequal of ST. No more going back or goodness knows what else will get messed up. Besides liek someone said, no Shatner. He is the master of playing Kirk. I don't know anyone else who would do that charecter justice.
