Does anybody know for sure if cell phone manufacturers copied Star Trek with the communicators?

I have to admit they are similar, especially the "Flip Phones" but I think even without trek the design would have been used.

Nah, probably not, but I'd bet any money that there is a cell phone out there that looks like a communicator from TOS.

I spose they're very similar.

But if you say cellphones are copied, you could say that palmpiolets are copied off the PADDs (does it have 1 of 2 d's, and does it stand for something) they have.

Hmmm... true. Palm pilots are rather like padds.

My question is, why is the their little personal computer thingys look like really big laptops? We have smaller laptops than that now, you'd think they would have either something smaller, something built right into the desk/wall, or have a 3D holographic computer interface. YEAH! That'd be way better.

I'm sure I heard somewhere that the communicators did inspire people to invent mobile phones.

It could be true that communicators opened up the minds of people so that they could accept the fact that summat like a mobile phone could exist
