And thank you for sharing your opinion, Founder.

I believe some respect should be given to the timeline. I definitely would have issues if The Ferengi, Cardassians and Hirogen started appearing in ENT. I would be a little annoyed if Archer and his crew ended up in the Delta Quadrant but quickly found a way back (such a plot would be disrespectful to VOY).

But overall, I think there are times when it doesn't matter as much. I think the key is a healthy balance. By all means, pay some respect to the timeline but if a good plot comes up that may contradict the timeline, then think carefully about it.

I guess the writers should simply be sensible. If Kirk can be brought in for one episode in a logical way, then he should (I wouldn't want to see him as a regular though). But I think beings such as Q or races such as The Ferengi or Hirogen should be definite no-no's. I guess the writers should consider the merits of each potential decision.

As someone who has been reading comics for years (such as Superman, Spider-Man and Batman), I have seen DOZENS of stories that contradict things that have happened before or things that will happen. Sometimes, it spoiled one's enjoyment, other times it didn't.

What ENT may do (and what has been talked about) is some sort of plot at the end of it's run which will tie up ALL loose ends. I hope that is what is done.

Really, ENT is in an unenviable position for the writers. Four prior series which they have to take into account. They have to try their best to cater for hardcore Trek fans and those who may have never seen a Trek show in their life. I think season 3 was a big improvement in so many ways. I hope the show can entertain for years to come.

No problem at all. I like having intelligent conversations.

They already had the Ferengi in one episode. See what I mean? The ENT writers just dont seem to care. I agree about having Kirk. If it can be done than be all means put him on the show. It would be a cool cameo. The thing is about ENT is that it has the potential to be such a better show. It doesnt need to mess with the timeline by putting Borg or Q or the Dominion or what ever. They have so much potential story with the formation of the Federation, Federation/Klingon war, Federation/Romulan war, first contacts with the RIGHT species. I feel like its being wasted. They have great actors and actresses. The show just needs to get on the path it was meant to be.

What episode was the Ferengi in, Founder? I missed some season 2 and 3 episodes. I do agree-it was wrong to have them in it.

You are right, ENT has the potential to be a much better show. I think season 3 was the best season yet but I still think the show needs some fine tuning. You mentioned some examples such as the formation of the Federation and the like which would make good plots.

A lot of people may see appearances by Kirk or The Ferengi as a) gimmicks and b) admittance on the part of Trek bosses that they have ran out of ideas.

I still don't mind a bit of messing with the timeline but there should be a line that isn't crossed. Some respect needs to be given to the timeline.

I'd be interested to hear your opinions Founder but here's what I would say to certain characters appearing on ENT...

Kirk- Yes, but only in ONE episode and a believable plot.
TNG/DSN/VOY characters- No way!
Q- No because it's obvious from watching TNG that Q has never visited any of the pre-TNG crew before (unless he did in another guise, but that's unlikely)
Alien races from future shows- I did like The Borg episode. But no to all other races not officially encountered until TNG, DSN or VOY eras.

Founder, you have challenged my thinking. I don't care as passionately about the timeline as some Trek fans but some of what you have said has definitely made me see things from a different perspective. Thank you. And I am a little annoyed that the Ferengi appeared on the show. That shouldn't have happened at all.

The name of the episode was Acquisition, in season 1. The writers tried to play it off by having the entire crew knocked out and have the Ferengi proceed to steal things. So official first contact was never made. It was clever but I didn't like it. It was not needed.

Your right about that but I wouldnt see it as that. As you can see my favorite series is DS9. People said that it was a gimmick to add Worf and the Defiant and it was a desperate move. I disagree completly. Kirk wouldn't be a gimmick.

That I agree 100%. Your first post I thought you didnt care at all about the timelines. I see I was wrong. Time travel is great and has been used in every series. It will be used alot in this one because of the Temporarl Cold War. I dont mind it being used just not to a point where Sisko is written out of history and Janeway chooses not to save the Ocampa.

Kirk-Agreed
TNG/DS9/VOY-Maybe...I dont want them too but it sounds somewhat interesting. Lol. Depends on how its handled, but I'd rather them not too.
Q-Agreed
Alien races from future shows-ONLY if they were meant to be there at that point. Than yes. Ferengi, Cardassian, Hirogen, and others are NOT. They are met later. They got away with Borg because of what happened in FC. That was a free lucky card. Now Vulcans, Andorians, Tellarites, Romulans, so on and so on. Ok by me.

Not a problem. I agree with some of your points as well. The timeline should be bent but not broken. Every other show did that too. I also agree about the Ferengi.

Shatner has commented on it in certain magazines. He did say that he had a plausible idea for bringing Kirk to the show. Let's hope he shares it.

Incidentally, in Star Trek Magazine (UK version), Shatner expressed an idea months back for a new Trek series. He said he had a great idea but was reluctant to share it because Paramount would own the idea. I would love to know what that idea is.

I think the idea he might have is he makes an appearance as one of Kirks ancestors. Like a great or great great grandfather.

He could've gone from, say, the Voyager era back in time (he is omipotent, after all) to the Enterprise era to have a little fun, and then he could erase their minds. But that'd be the only logical way.

Hmm, interesting idea. Certainly logical seeing as he is omnipotent. My only question would be-why? Yes, he does enjoy toying with people. Why would he go back and toy with Enterprise? That's a question the writers/producers would have to consider.

Also, John De Lancie looks older now. What do you think the writers should do about that? How should they explain it?

I think that the idea is stupid. You would have had to have had a lead or something coming from TOS. I don't see the piont in it.
