Perhaps between us, we could come up with an online course to sell to would-be-writers.

Actually, I'd be thrilled if this thread became a place for writers to come and share any tips, advice and other stuff they have come across. Not just about the four questions at the beginning, but about anything. I have really enjoyed hearing (well, reading, really) what other authors have had to say. It really shows you how writing is an artform, because I have a way of writing, and someone else has a completely different way of writing, and their writing is so good, and their ideas are so clever, even though I never would have thought of those ideas in a million years, and am i rambling or what? I chose my sig for a reason. 
Anyway, I'd love to see this thread develop.

I believe in life, you can never stop learning whether that applies to the way you run a business, do your work, write or even playing sport.
There is always someone in life who can provide a fresh perspective. Everyone is unique and getting everyone's brains together is priceless. I would not have thought of some of the things I have seen posted here.

1.) There is no real way to see if your names appeal to readers, but don't make it some ten syllable word that only you know how to pronounce.
2.) Well, for starters, don't sit in front of a computer playing games all day. Read a book. Play a game that's challenging to the mind, just don't mindlessly press buttons in front of some computer screen.
3.) I never thought that pen names were necessary. Now, if you become a very famous writer, maybe.
4.) For me, yes. Get up, and do something else for a while. Don't even think about the story while your doing that activity. For me, when I come back, I have a lot of ideas usually.

Hmmm. This thread seems to have gotten a little cold.
To get things back up, I'd like to ask how you guys have found ways to create tension in your stories. Edge of the seat excitement, or suspense. That sort of thing.

Well, write about things you know about, if you have Cancer, write about someone's struggle with cancer. You know about it, so you could make it very realistic. If you know someone who had a heart attack and died, write about someone who had a heart attack and died, and show what its like for the family to move on with out them. etc...

True. It's very hard to just imagine something and then try to put it into words - even something as simple as stomach ache can be hard when you're feeling perfectly fine.
