During the series, Captain Jean-Luc Picard made many obvious attempts to seduce Doctor Beverly Crusher. More or less he wanted her to like him. And every attempt he initiated, she rejected. What was she afraid of? Why did she push him away? Most will say it is because of Doctor Crusher's deceased husband, and how Captain Picard and him were best friends. Many know and accept this, but some hoped for a better more precise explanation.

This is an interesting question. I just saw an episode in that Picard said some thing like "maybe we shouldn't be afraid to expore our feelings for each other" and Crusher said "Maybe we should". I got the impression that she didn't want to explore it because of their professional relationship.

In the episode "Remember Me" she is going to tell the Warp Bubble version of him, but he disappears first.

well it would make sense. her husband did die, i believe they had to leave him behind, and memories of that day keep coming back when she gets close to somebody... like Picard

every time someone like Picard tried to get close to her she pushed farther and farther away. she couldn't even try a start a relationship.. though i do think that Wesley could be Beverly and Jean-luke's child.. he does have some of picard's more "charming" traits.

Remeber, she did seem "fond" of the "energy-incubus" that
the female members of her family kept company with.

That episode was about the Scottish-style colony.

Finally, an apparition she could be alone with. Safe even
for her...

It was her marriage to Lt. Cmdr. Jack Crusher that provided the major trauma of her adult life when he died on an away team mission off the U.S.S. Stargazer under Captain Jean-Luc Picard in 2355. Before their wedding on July 20, 2348, during her medical schooling, the future Crushers had dated for several months until he finally proposed by sending her the book "How To Advance Your Career Through Marriage." The two had first been introduced by Walker Keel, who with Jack had been Picard's closest friend during their early years in Starfleet; ironically, her relationship with Jack followed an intense but brief affair that had already run its course.

The new couple and Picard became close friends during those years the men served on Picard's U.S.S. Stargazer. The captain later accompanied her to the Starbase 32 morgue to view Jack's corpse, but it was not until years later again - again, in 2370 - that Picard confirmed her suspicion that he too was attracted to her, thanks to a telepathic linkage while held as spies on Kesprytt. Picard had denied there would be any personal problems when she signed aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise as his CMO in 2364 at Farpoint Station, but in reality both knew they shared a latent interest in each other by the time of the Tsiolkovsky virus epidemic that brought it out only a few weeks later.

In her later years Dr. Crusher had another intimate yet short-lived relationship with the Joined Trill ambassador Odan, and had displayed affection for an evolving Zalkon called "John Doe" and visiting historian Berlinghoff Rasmussen - the latter only until his time-traveling story turned out to be a hoax.

I think she fears commiting herself completely to any man for fear of loosing him and for fear of betraying her dead husband. Even though he is dead. It seems everytime she is ready to tell Picard she loves him something happens, i think she just got tired of it and gave up. Though she shouldn't have!!!

She loved him very much, but memories of her past with Jack and professional lives kept her from admitting it.

There were times when she initiated things... Naked Now...

I just read some thing on a fansite that said that part of what they wanted to do with "Attached" had to do with them being addicted to each other, and then later them being on withdrawl, so later, she was afraid to initiate something because it might be her craving his mind...which sort of explains why she didn't say yes then.

And if it isn't true...

Then it sounds better to us P/C shippers!
