Tell me what you think of my idea for a new Star Trek series:
Have every episode show what the life of a student in Starfleet Academy is like. You could bring back characters from Voyager, TNG, and DS9 as professors. You could also show what happens when students are assigned to different ships as parts of a class (this could bring back entire casts from previous shows)

I actually REALLY like that idea, I think it would be a good twist to the Star Trek Franchise.

i couldnt see rick berman or any other star trek producer letting it turn into something like that, but then again i never thought that smallville (a show about superman) would turn out the way it did

Great, great idea!
Why? Two reasons.
1.) It's something different. We don't know if or when Enterprise will end but when it does, there will most likely be a new Trek show. What I don't think most people will want is YET ANOTHER show set on a starship. We need something different, a fresh approach.
2.) Your idea is good because I think a lot of people would like to see more of Starfleet Academy. Everyone's opinion is valid but when the Stafleet Academy idea was brought up a few years ago, the idea was shot down. In life, it's best to view something before making an opinion.
My only reservation is whether Trek fans (myself included) would have any stamina for another Trek show after ENT ends. However, I think a Starfleet Academy idea would work as a mini-series, say five or six parts over a year. And take it from there.

You know I agree with what you're saying, but I'm one of the few who believe Trek needs a break. I mean don't start a new series for awhile, give it a rest. With the way Enterprise is going right now, I don't think there will be a new show for awhile anyway.

Yeah, I always thought a SF Academy series would be cool too. I think 1 person per 1 episode might be a little hard to catch up with, but I think it would be cool if they just followed cadets through their years at the Academy throughout the series.
i.e.
season 1= freshman kids as most main characters with some upperclassmen
season 2- now sophomore major characters, some upperclassmen, some freshmen...
etc. then through the season the viewers could see a good handful of characters and their experiences. it would be cool

i think it would be best if it went on so that there on a starship, other wirse it would seriously lack action meaning it DEFINA@TELY wouldn't be popular.

"Star Trek" seems to be in decline the last 5 years. Enterprise, in my opinion, is a very good if not better series than TNG, DS9, VOY and it is suffering from low ratings. I think the scifi "market" is more saturated with scifi series now than 5-10 years ago when Star Trek had so much of a following. These new scifi series is enough competition for viewer time that it eats into the "Star Trek's" ratings. A new ST series, unless promoted heavy, would not see better ratings than Enterprise currently.

I don't know, I think a series based on Klingons would be much more interesting, at the time of ENT .

^That is also a very interesting idea, . A new series straight from the Klingon's perspective sounds great!

erh... maybe not. one of the things I like about Star Trek right now is that you actually get a mix of different species... because watching Klingons all the time might get a little annoying

^Noooooo, not watching them all the time. I mean, I'm pretty sure that they have dealings with other species daily, . I think that it would be a good twist to use another species perspective ... it would be more open-minded of governments besides Starfleet's.

Some interesting comments there.
A Klingon series has been suggested by myself in the past. With the right writers, a Klingon series (or Mini-Series perhaps) would be exciting.
My other choice would be The Romulans, a species I've always found fascinating and I'd love to see their perspective.
Getting back to the Starfleet Academy idea, a lot of people I spoke to years ago said that it would be a bad idea because it wouldn't be set on a starship. Well, DS9 wasn't set on a starship and that was still good.
In fact, if you have a stationery Trek series, it forces the writers to come up with better plots, be more creative. Case in point-the writers of DS9 didn't have the luxury of sending Sisko and co. to a different planet each week, they had to come up with creative plots set mostly on a space station.
A Starfleet Academy idea would be good as long as it didn't get soapy and concentrated on the Cadet's trying to make the grade. There could be a bit of intrigue in it as well. Remember that TNG episode where Wesley and his friends were in trouble after their actions led to the death of a cadet. That was a good plot. An SF Academy idea would work well I think.

^Yeah, that's also a good idea. There also has to be a certain thing that gives it an edge like no other starbase (kind of like the discovery of the first stable wormhole next to DS9), like a new discovery or new technology never before developed.
