Born into bondage that doesn't cease,
The everlasting rape of peace.
He can't see beyond the haze of lies,
When he was born his freedom died.
Forced into submission by a torrent of pain,
Smashing his soul and degrading his brain.
They tell him that this is the life he chose,
How can that be when freedom's door is closed?
He slowly comes to grip the fact,
A wave of change he must enact.
He searches in secret for a voice inside,
While tuning out the anguished cries.
With time the child becomes a man,
Perfecting in shadows his radical plan.
Slave to labor in sunlights heat,
All the while never admitting defeat.
He brings a message to dissatisfied folk,
"Near is the freedom of which I've spoke."
His loyal fans, at ease with faith,
Dream of the death of wretched wraiths.
Slowly but surely the movement grows,
Blistering pains still in tow.
They plan the time for when they'll start,
Ready to die to do their part.
The sun rises on a now elderly fellow,
The east enshrouded in a blooming yellow.
The dawn of the day of which he spoke,
Has come to be, has finally broke.
He failed to forsee, sadly it seems,
That his wish might be the death of all his dreams.
He is pushed back with ominous force,
By his hated foes, cruelty's source.
His eyes slowly growing dim,
The struggle has taken its toll on him.
As he withers into the night,
He tells his brethren to continue the fight.
And so he dies, with pained regret,
Witnessing the finality of the passing sunset.
The heart of the resistance may be lost,
But freedom will be won, at any cost.
