The Death Penalty

I DON'T support the death penalty. I am 100% against it. I don't think that we have any right to choose whether a man lives or dies; it's completely up to the person on how they want to live their lives. Life in prison seems harsh enough, so why do we HAVE to kill someone to assure ourselves that we are now 'safe?' I'm sorry but if that's what some people think, they're wrong. Even though we do give someone the death penalty there will always be someone else with even more despicable crimes, so what, do we kill him too, or the next, or the next? I think that when someone is issued the death penalty it's completely a show to everyone whom was affected by the person's crimes that he will never walk the earth again and it gives them a sense of safeness, when there are still maniacs walking around who could do the very same thing the next day to the same people.

It's not a matter of safe it a matter of irony.

Live by the sword, die by the sword, it's only fitting. Though we may not see it as much now, the DP has kept order throughout civilization throughout history, and may do so more in the future.

Now, what I don't understand is people who are anti-DP and pro-Abortion.

Compare a murderer to an innocent child. Tell me which deserves to die more?

Why do all you americans support the death penalty? It seems totally wrong to force a human to death. Like murder.

In Australia, we have no death penalty.

I support it, they should have been aware of the consequences when they commited the crime.

I would support it for some things. It would be a disincentive for people who planned murder if they knew if they were caught they would be killed. Also the money saved from keeping them in jail or protected once they get out. There was someone in Britain who was involved in the murder of two children, and the costs of protecting the person alone is �1 million. That could be sent on schools and so on, a lot more worthwile.

I am not for the death penalty in any case, for anyone. It is taking away another humans life, and all life, no matter whose it may be is sacred.

You know, this made me think.....liberals are usually for abortion, killing babies, but usually not for capital punishment

I'm for it. I think that there should be more than enough evidence to incriminate the person before it's decided, but I'm for it. There are some people who can't be rehabilitated, and whose crime can only match punishment by death.

If someone kills another human being, or many, than why shouldn't they die, as well? They were willing to put someone through the pain of death, shouldn't they have been aware of what they were doing? Shouldn't they have considered that they may get caught, and therefore have to suffer the consequences? It's not fair that person(s) had to die, and therefore their killer just gets to live for free.

Yeah, true I guess. But it's a little hard to justify murder for murder. Also, life in prison is worse than death.

And life in prision uses less of your taxpayer dollars than does capital punishment.

^Are you sure? I mean, you'd have to keep the prisoners fed and clothed, which comes out of the taxpayer money. And, there is the matter of paying for the prisons' security systems, which also comes out of the taxpayer money.

I am absolutly sure, I had to do a persuasive speech on it in speech a few months ago, and researched it. All the site, including a non-biased site gave the same information. Life without parole is less costly than capital punishment.

I don't support the death penalty. I've heard of far too many cases where a person has come close to being executed only for some last minute evidence or confession proves them to be innocent; like a case in my town recently with a guy named Daryl Hunt. I'd rather prevent 1 innocent man dying for something he didn't do than execute a million guilty man. I also think that executions are really political ... it doesn't hurt a politician's "hard on crime" stance to have the people know he supports executions.
