Sat Apr 24, 2004 12:46 pm Brand new 'series' movie trilogy?? |
|
I really think that it would be a good to, instead of creating a new series with new cast members, create a movie trilogy with a new ship and new cast members. I mean, do something like they did with Lord of the Rings and Star Wars (I know it was MORE than a trilogy but you get my point), but really go in depth (in each movie) on Trek. I also think that the writers of Voyager, DS9, and TNG should team up and create a masterpiece of a script. Any opinions?

Interesting post, Paul.
Let's look at it from different angles. For starters, what will the next Trek film NOT be. It won't be an Original Crew adventure obviously (although I'd love a Captain Sulu movie). I don't think it should be a TNG movie, I liked Nemesis and think it provided a brilliant finale for the TNG crew. DS9 might be interesting but I don't know if it'd translate well to the big screen. VOY would be a good idea but I don't think it'll happen soon. There won't be an ENT movie for a long, long time (if at all).
What I think the next Trek film needs to be is something that we haven't seen before. Not a TNG movie with the crew taking on The Romulans or The Borg. Not something we've seen on a Trek episode. But something different.
The great thing about this site is reading views like yours, Paul, that make you think. I think your idea is an excellent idea.
It'd be different, and if handled right, it would knock Trek fans socks off. I don't know what the story could be but it could be something that could help the Trek franchise in later years provided it's a fresh idea.
I don't want to put words in people's mouths but, be honest, how many of you would feel enthusiastic if you learnt the next Trek movie would be a TNG movie? How many of you would feel disappointed if you learnt that Trek XI was just going to be an extended version of a Trek episode from yesteryear.
I'd like to hear more of your ideas on this, Paul. Anything you had in mind regarding a trilogy? Let us know.

Actually, I think that sounds awesome--sort of like that one Trek book series they have with the whole new crew. There'd be a lot more possibilities, because they could develop the crew through the movies, instead of already having set characters from the series transitioning to the movies. Perhaps cast members from previous Treks, like Voyager, depending on the time period of the movie, could also appear?

Actually, I change my mind on a trilogy. I'd rather it be a Quadrilogy or something, to get more in.

I like this idea that's what I think they should do with Star Trek. New ship; New crew.

Yes, this does sound very interesting. You've got a good idea there Paul.
When making movies, the Trek producers have lots more money than and time than they would have when makin a series. So, this would mean we could have a great plot, excellent cast, super special effects and so on...
Maybe someone should suggest this idea to the producers...
