I thought they achieved a good balance with Q. The humor offset the scariness of their god-like powers. John De Lance is an excellent actor - a veteran bad guy from TV soap operas - and his on screen rapport with Patrick Stewart is amazing to watch.

yeah, I like Q himself... and the idea of the Q... but it's like... sometimes the writers are sitting there and thinking... "hey, we don't have an ending" "man, i'm tired" "alright, alright folks, lets wrap it up, we need an idea for an ending..." "oh... oh! I have an idea!" "what?" "Q" *small mumbles of approval* "yeah, yeah, ok. lets go home" (tada! we have yet another Q episode (VOY were the ones who really overused it, though))

I thought Q was great! I really liked his viciously paternal attitude with Picard. If you want to read a good ST book about Q, read I, Q. John deLancie helped write it.

Q was cool because of his sarcasm and sometimes he was even nice, for example when he gave a good laughter to Data.
