Im sure that i saw a THG episode once and picard was dating a woman on board, she was a medical officer or something, im not sure.

BUT
in voyager 'elogium' janeway says to chakotay that, that is just simply a luxury that she doesn't have beeing captain.

The episode of TNG were Picard got involved with a crew member was called "Lessons". I believe it was in TNG's seventh season. About Janeway, yeah, she should have gotten a love interest as well. Picard had Vash as well remember?

I think that the writers didn't want to give Janeway a love interest because it's in our culture to think that if a woman has different relationships in a relative short periode, she's seen a *beep* or something like that. When men do it, their considered to be machos which in a way is being cool.

Star Trek tries it's best not to be sexist in any way but sometimes it doesn't work. Look at the cloths women on Star Trek have to wear. They need to be sexy looking. The men have to be strong and cool.

I believe what he was trying to say is why did Janeway say that she couldn't have a realationship when she was alloud. Or something like that.

Anywayz, it was just her opinion that the captain should not have a relationship. Picard's not too big on it either but hey...what the hell...you know.

Did anything I just said make sense at all?

no, im just saying that startrek is contredicting it's self. In one series the captain has a relation ship with a crew member and then in another that is just one luxury that a cpatian doesn't have. it's very conterdictory.

Actually engaging in a relationship is the captain's decision. Some choose to while other do not. Picard tried it but did not like it. Janeway did not have a relationship with a crew member but she did have one with a hologram. Personally I think that the captain's usually choose not to have the relationships with crew because they feel it needlessly complicates their duties.

The difference between Janeway and Picard is that Janeway was married. In a sence, Janeway lost her husband; I believe his name was Mark. Mark thought Janeway was killed in the line of duty. Janeway had no clue that Mark had remarried so, believing Mark was still waiting for her, Janeway just couldn't start another relationship.

Even after a few years I think you still thought about the husband she lost. It would be very hard to start something with someone else.

Picard didn't have this problem so in a way, he could do what he wanted.

no she was going out with him she wasn't married to him...

and she actually says in elogium: "thats a luxury i dont have"
and i agree cuz that might show favoratism if she was goin out with one of the crew, it just wouldn't be right

You do have a very good piont, but she said that "that is a luxery that I don't have." It would have been different if she said Captain instead of I.
