PostWed Mar 31, 2004 12:47 pm    Iraqis hang bodies of U.S. civilians from bridge

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Suspected insurgents killed four civilian contractors, including three Americans, in a grenade attack Wednesday in central Iraq, U.S. officials said.

Cheering residents in Fallujah pulled charred bodies from burning vehicles and hung them from a Euphrates River bridge. Crowds gathered around the vehicles and dragged at least one of the bodies through the streets, witnesses said.

Residents pulled another body from one of the cars and beat it with sticks. Three of the contractors were Americans, the U.S. State Department said. Officials said they are trying to identify the fourth victim.

Also in the Fallujah region, five American soldiers died in a roadside bombing near Habbaniya, the U.S. military said. The fatalities bring the U.S. military death toll in Iraq to 600, 408 of them in hostile action.

In the attack on the civilians, witnesses said two Mitsubishi vehicles left a military base east of Fallujah to make their way into the city, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) west of Baghdad. The vehicles turned onto a Fallujah street as men -- whose faces were covered by headscarves -- split into two groups and threw hand grenades at the cars, witnesses said.

The assailants then sprayed the burning cars with small-arms fire. Video showed crowds chanting and cheering at the scene, with charred corpses hanging from the bridge over the Euphrates.

Fallujah is so hecktic a region!
What we should do is evacuate its people from the city and then level it--yes LEVEL it.
Anyone who wouldn't leave willingly would die--the terrorists.
As the people would evacuate, we would search them.

Well, in the first place, they shouldn't have been killed. Those people were there to help Iraq get back to where it belongs.

Secondly, it's inhumane to poke dead corpses with sticks and to drag bodies through the city and to hang the dead over a bridge.

If someone wants to kill people, I can understand that (I don't approve but I understand). But to mutilate bodies, that's just sick and barbaric.

Hang on a sec, you're talking about peoples homes now. Some of these people have probably lived there all their lives. They won't want to leave, but that wouldn't make them terrorists. They need extra support, to make their community a safe place. Since it's partially the UK and US's fault that the region is unstable, they should help improve it.

Have you seen the pictures of what happened. A mans burnt torso was dragged through the streets and beaten by a group of the towns population. Two men were hung, one by there leg, off of a bridge, and his body was charred, the other was also hung. It's called respect for the dead, and obviously these Iraqis are so uncivilized and evil that they do not even respect there enemy's dead.

Monkey, find a copy of the pictures. Now stick your mothers face to one of the bodies. Now tell me, what's so wrong with it?

My first reaction when seeing those pictures was, "F*ck them, pull the troops, and let the bastards work it out on their own." But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that we could not do that. #1, it's not who we are, and #2, there are millions there glad Saddam is gone, and that the coalition is there. If we abandon them now, they will fall prey to the bastards still terrorizing.

To state that the Iraqi's are uncivilized is a brutal generalization. Following that logic I could state that americans like to kill people. Again a brutal generalization. I agree those actions are reprehensible regardless of whether the victims were civilians or soldiers, but to condemn a whole nation of people is extreme.

I did not make a generalization...I said THESE Iraqis:

I did this purposly so people would know I was not making generalizations, however I can see how it would come across as that. I apologize and will be more specific next time.

It's green because of the impurities in the sand.

I'm not saying that some, KEY WORD being SOME, of the Iraqis in Falujah aren't terrorists or American haters, but look at how many Iraqis were dancing in the streets--plus, in that area of the country, most Iraqis are American haters. And it is the ONLY way that we can deal with terrorists in that country. Now, I'm not saying KILL EVERYONE--no, give them a day to leave, and then level the place.
And most of the Iraqis in Falujah DON'T WANT American support, unfortunately. And not to mention that that area was SO used to torture and dictatorship (more than most other places there) that something harsh--NO, NOT TORTURE or DICTATORSHIP, ect.--is necessary to bring order to the region. This is the ONLY way to improve that region, at least as of now. What would you do, then?
And Oliver, I agree with you completely.

Agreed.

Now, I hardly saw ANY pictures because the media wouldn't show it, so if you FOUND SOME STUPID PICTURES, you would realize how horrible it was. THAT will change your mind.
