I still don't get the whole holodeck idea...like how can you move, yet when you say computer show exit or something you see it just in front of you...and safety protocols?

Well, as for the moving, think of a tredmill. and saftey protocals? All the holodeck is, is controlled light and forcefields.

Well the exit appearing in front of you can be explained as follows: notice that when someone cancels the holodeck program that the person is usually standing in the middle of the room. Well in all actuality you don't move from the middle of the room. Like Prank said, think treadmill.

On the floor of the holodeck is a forcefield which keeps moving, and for safety protocols, whenever the computer detects a situation which could be life threatening to the person, it automatically stops the program.

These are all correct answers, though in the TNG episode Elementary, Dear Data, when they want to get to the arch, Data walks fastly out of the room and to somewhere else with Geordi following him. Then when he is in a particulat place he summons the Arch. Why did he simply not do so where he was in the first place?! He would have still been in the same spot.

these are all good except the program does'ent stop when a life threatning situation comes up like prankish said it's just light and force fields. and it is just a treadmill but intead of a straight line it's like a roller mouse

but what happens when you call for the exit and it appears but people are behind like in generations. When picard calls for the exit it appears in the middle of the boat but deanna was at the front which was behind the exit

All you need to know about the holodeck is two words - writer's crutch.
