Cool.
I have XP on this machine and it seems to not crash so much as 98 does on the old one. Could be the computer as well though. It is better in some ways, but if you're good with computers is quite simple to use and doesn't test you. Depends on what you like though.

My computer loads within 30 seconds now. XP is so incredibly fast on booting up. I love it.

I got that physical memory dump blue screen alot. The problem was overheating for me. Next time you get that error, feel to see if the little thing is hot anywhere (inside if you can). You may just need a fan or two!

XP (Professional at least) is totally rubbish for games. When I put a game onto it, it will load up and you can play it for 5 minutes and then the computer would crash. I gave up trying to play games on this machine and use the old 98 one.

I think the site is blueviper.com, or maybe its blackviper I cant remember. they have a lot of stuff you can turn off for XP so it runs faster, even though XP still sucks.
you also have to have atleast 512MB of ram to run XP, some one that is related to me *so i've been told* had a computer with XP and he only had 256MB of ram, so he punched it off his desk, and punched it some more when it was lying on the floor.

Easy there. You have your political views, I have mine. You can argue all you want, but im not going to change, and vice versa. Dont make me bust out the picture again.

Seriously, tons of people run the Athlons. I myself have a 2400+ Athlon XP chip, so dont say no one uses them, especially since you have no idea.

Scan for viruses man. That *beep* aint right. Well, unless you run a slow processor, what is the speed on that?

XP crashes less often, but when it does it's baaaaaaaaaad. I've found XP to be more stable over the long term if you stick with the FAT32 file system instead of NTFS.

NTFS is much better than FAT32.
NTFS does not have to search the entire FAT when looking for a letter or number. NTFS also provides user level security that I need for my network. I run two hard disks in RAID and NTFS is faster. NTFS should be faster.
There is something wrong with your configuration or something there.

My high end pentium III system is still quite good for today.
Pentium III's are rated like new Xeon's, 24 hour a day usage. All pentium 4's, celerons, athlons etc are only rated for desktop 8 hour a day usage.
Thats why high end dual tulatin p3's are still being used in server environments today.

^Pentium III's go up to 1.4, actually. They also had an experimental 1.53 chip too I believe.
P3's may not be good for playing games like doom 3 or quake 4, but they can do everything else just fine.
Anyway, a p3 1.4 could kick the pants off a celeron or duron 2ghz system. I am not just talking about speed, too
