Mon Dec 15, 2003 7:38 pm I think Star Trek XI should be a DSN movie |
|
I think Star Trek XI (and there will be one, folks) should be a DSN movie. Why? Tradition, purely and simply.
DSN was a great series which had a lot more inter-personal conflicts as opposed to the buddy-buddy relationships on TNG (although TNG was great). It did a lot for the Star Trek universe. To me, it wouldn't seem right if they just skipped past DSN and did a Voyager movie. Yes, Voyager was great because like DSN, it featured loads of inter-personal conflict but I think DSN should be done first.
Confession time, folks. I haven't seen seasons six or seven of DSN so don't know what happened really. Yes, I heard Sisko died but how I don't know. Perhaps DSN ended in a manner which prevented a return in movie form but still, a DSN movie would be good.

I don't know how well a DS9 movie would work.....but there's already a follow-up, in the form of the DS9 Relaunch novels. They're quite good---some of the best of Trek fiction out there.

There is the question of what's left to tell.
For DS9, there are dozens of plot threads which could be picked up for a potential movie. The Romulan Alliance, Sisko's return, the Maquis situation, the rebuilding of Cardassia, the entry of Bajor into the Federation......most of which are covered in the Relaunch, but which might make a decent movie anyway.
Whereas with VOY, well....they're home. Any movie would be little different from a TNG movie, unless it involved a problem which was unique to Voyager----a DQ threat like the Vaudwaur, perhaps.
While the cast of VOY was great, the stories just weren't as epic is DS9's. That gives it, IMO, less movie potential. Of course, its a mute point----niether series is likely to get a movie.
Since Nemesis did so poorly at the box office, its entirely possible that there will be no Trek XI. And even if there is, it'll probably be mixed-cast, all-new cast or (God forbid!) an ENT movie.

Perhaps.
But such a movie wouldn't appeal to the mainstream----only to Trek fans. Only to VOY fans, really.
With any luck, the Voyager Relaunch novels will cover some of that.

An all-new cast would be a mistake IMO. A movie based on a series works because we've had time to get to know the characters and care for them. You don't have that luxury with a new movie cast.
I'm halfway through season 1 of Enterprise (I know, I know-I'm behind but life is busy). It's okay but it doesn't give me the passion I had when watching TOS, TNG, DSN and VOY. There's nothing that grabs my attention and makes me anticipate the next episode.
How about a movie where Q gets on the nerves of Kirk, Spock, Picard, Riker, Sisko, Nerys, Janeway and Chokatay and Archer too?

Good idea my friend.
That's the things I like about forums-other people's points of view. I never thought of that but a DSN/Voyager movie would not only be interesting, it'd be pleasing to both DSN and Voyager fans (and fans of both shows too).

I read somewhere (it was from an interview with Peter David) that the next movie COULD be a New Frontier movie. The popularity of the books has far surpassed the popularity of the recent TV shows and would make an excellent movie. The only problem I see is that not everyone reads the NF books.

Please forgive my ignorance but I wouldn't have the time to read Trek novels. I could search the official Star Trek site but, hey, I'll ask you-what is New Frontier?
Thank you.

I hope there are more star trek movies in the future, there is still so many ideas of fans out there that can really make a good movie they dont need to end the star trek saga but keep it going for the fans.

They should make a movie with all three (Voyager,DS9,and TNG) crews in a war with the delta quadrant aggressors(Kazon,Hirogen,Borg, etc) who invade the alpha quadrant through transwarp conduits something interesting im sure there could be more added on or something but just to continue the star trek saga.

As Lindley already pointed out, the possibilties for a DS9 movie far outweigh the possibilties for a Voyager movie. If a movie was to be made based on one series, DS9 would be my preference .. but I do think that a crossover between DS9 and Voyager (and maybe even some of the cast from TNG) would be an even better idea. Then everyone would be happy.

Until they refit every other ship in the fleet with Voyager's technology. Then it'll just be a normal little scout ship again.

If the next Trek movie would be a Voyager movie, I would be deeply dissapointed. Plain and simple, why skip DS9? They have as much right to a movie than TNG and VOY.
So I say, let the TNG crew rest for now. If some members of TNG should come back, it should be in a DS9 movie. But the DS9 cast should get the main roles. After that, we could have a VOY movie...
I really would like a VOY movie too but please, don't forget about DS9!

I totally agree--to disregard DS9 and skip over to a Voyager movie would be rude to the fans of DS9. It was a good show, and a good addition to Star Trek. It should be given the honor of having a movie.

I'm all for a DS9 movie. I'd love to see the entire DS9 cast come to the big screen. Just wonder what the writers could come up with...

Sisko is dead...and I dont think it would make much of a practical reason to add him in the form of a prophit. And really what would they make a movie based on???????A new alien foe that comes through the worm hole...or perhaps the borg comes through the wormhole.Ether way even if they make a movie sisko is dead and he was the one who held everything together in DS9

True hes with the Prophits...but what kind of practical reason would there be to add him in that form?
