No, because of human greed/inability to afford bonds/stocks/donations to these alternative energy source companies. Most people can easily see the use in donating money to companies that produce alternative energy sources, but currently there is no profit involved. If people bought stocks in a company that produced fuel cells, then it would be decades, maybe even centuries, before those stocks became of any value, and that is if that company is still in existance then.
So you see, therein lies the problem, the people who are rich are the ones who can afford to donate to these companies, but the ones who are rich are rich for a reason - they spend their money wisely, and they spend their money to create profit, and only a small fraction of their income goes to charity.
Tell me, when was the last time you bought a stock/bond from a company that produced alternative energy sources? You aren't ignorant (I assume of course  ) you just can't afford to buy them.

So why is that? Pretend we're standing (or better floating) on the Sun's surface, the temp is about 5000-6000�C, but as we fly off in to space, it should get colder. Why is the corona hotter?

I understand your explanation, but I don't understand something. You say that the corona's temp is graeter than the temp of the Sun's surface. Just like the temp in the oven is greater than that of a boiling cup. But when we put our finger in both of them, the cups 'feels' hotter.
So if we can't distinguish the real temp of something, how does a thermometer find out which is hotter. I mean, our sense of touch is sort of a thermometer (not an accurate one but still).
I hope you understand my question, it's hard to explain.
