Tue Feb 24, 2004 9:45 pm Do you spend to much time on the net? |
|
After looking at myself and a few of the people that i chat with over the net on a daily basis i find that we are always on the net. Me more than some people. I spend maybe 5-10 hours on a computer each day. That is a lot of time. 35-70 hours a weel, 1825 -3650 hours a year! Thats 152 Days per year that your on the net. The res of the time i am At school, looking for a job or im sleeping/eating. Am i alone in the very sad fact? I know this is very bad not just for my personal life but also for my eyes. IS there any medical promblems people get from net? I dont know, but im sick of being a net junkie.

I don't need to spend as much time on the net as I do, but there is nothing else for me to do.

That would be the same for me...it's either get online, or spend my time studying...more than I already do...so really, I don't see it as a bad thing...for me, anyway. For some people, it could very possibly be, but I don't have any friends in my area, all of my friends are online, so I'm not missing out on socializing in real life, this is my social interaction.

Well i see your point there Sydney. I have moved from Dallas to Houston to Amarillo and have lost all of my friends twice and i dont want to go though it again. The onle friends i have from houston are the ones that i have made over the net. That is one of the only good reasons that i like the net so much, it gives the world connected so much more. I never use the net for studing barely ever anymore. Its just Message boards and games.
Also people dont treat as bad as they do in real life by judging by looks and the way some people talk. That is another great plus the the Net.

Oh, definitely. I go online before school, at lunchtime and when I come home after school, if no one's on it. If I have no homework or anything to do, I'll try to stay on all night. My real life friends all make remarks about it... there was one day when one of them signed on about three times, hours apart, and I was online every time. Even my form tutor has noticed! My brother totaled up how many hours I'd spent on the internet one month, and it was more than my four siblings put together,

I don't think I spend as much time on my comp as I used to. For me on a weekend I spend more time on it, but a weekday it's maybe about 3 or 4 hours a day.

I used to spend about 6 hours a day on the internet, but my parents got mad at me and were like "You need to spend more time with your family blah blah blah..."
Now I only spend about 2 1/2 hours, except on weekends sometimes a little more.

I did. Cut down alot the last two weeks, though. During the winter here, I'm online too much, but I'm a voracious reader, and there are all kinds of things to read on the net. I try to come on at least an hour at a time during the day, and longer if people are on that I like talking to. *shrug* I just need to keep my mind active, and tv, for the most part, doesn't do that. I've also started going out more, too, which I guess is good. I'm not a very social person, , but I'm working on it. Actually, right now, I'll be late for a breakfast date if I don't leave now,

I don't have the proof, but I read a long long time ago, that scientists discovered that television reduces brain activity. That's why teachers always told us never to watch tv before studying.

No, I don't think so. But everyone in my surroundings seem to think so. I get on the net as soon as I get home, mostly. Sometimes I do homework first, like today.

Yeah, I heard that, too. You have more brain activity while asleep than you do while watching television.

OMG, my father says that all of the time. Or, "does a bear *beep* in the woods?" No, he does it in the road and kicks it in,

Yes I do. I've made many excuses to play on the computer instead of going out. I like the net.
