I think we are all quite aware of who Jesus is at this point, so no more nitpicking, ok? I mean, the crucifixion story isn't exactly late breaking news.

I learned today that a lot of what Gibson was trying to do with his movie was make a larger version of the Passion Plays that happen somepleaces in Europe and over here in New Mexico. People actually audition for parts, whoever gets the role of Jesus agrees to be whipped, crowned with thors and carry the cross, where he is hung (by ropes, not nails). The plays carry over the same amount of time the real Christ's Passion was. Gibson wanted to give this to the world, since so few could actually see it.

Speaking for the theatrical comunity... There are tricks of the trade that can make a wipping look real. With the perfect combination of Lighting, sound, perfect acting, props, makeup, and control, these things can be done. THeatre majic is a lot like movie majic.. just... well a bit harder due to the fact that you can't edit plays:)

Naw, girl... this isn't like The Thorn or anything. I've seen it all done on stage... the Passion anyway, with the whippings and deaths and such. very realistic, yeah. But these ones ain't on a stage. It's actually outside, in the real world. Plus, it's mostly European... so I mean... who can blame 'em for being crazy like that?

God has a plan for Mel Gibson and he should not be ashamed of making the film. I don't think it would hurt his career of something he believes in.

^ yeah, that's a big controversy surrounding the movie. I can't reall say, I haven't studied the Bible as much as I probably should, but I'm under the impression that the Bible actually says it was the Jews. Not like... I don't know, it should be held against or anything, it's history after all. But yeah
^^ I don't think it will end Gibson's career either. Plus, if it did, it wouldn't really do anything to him, he's already to "in" in Hollywood, etc.
Anyone seen it yet? I have tickets for tomorrow night at 10:30

I agree with you, we was the ones that killed jesus. But he loved us so much he died for our sins. i know jesus is my best friend. no i am not going to preach lol.
I may not be perfect but at least i know I can look up and say a prayer and he will answer. may not be when I want it but in good time.
I can not wait to see the movie.

Well, I saw the movie last night, so here's my review
I went into the movie thinking it would move me a lot more spiritually than it actually did. Like some critics are saying, there's more emphasis on violence and the physical suffering that Jesus went through than the spiritual suffering and message of Jesus. I feel the graphic nature of the film made it what it was- realistic. There are so many parts where you cringe or have to look away. The characters of Satan and demons were done very well through several characters. Hearing all the words in the original language was interesting too.
But you know how movies can effect you in a weird way. Nearly everyone cried, it's part of the feeling helpless, I guess. It effected me because I only cried one tear... but I felt so dry after the movie... spiritually, I guess, not sure. Of course it could have been due to the fact that I had a fever for the duration of the movie. Then again, maybe I'm just heartless...
Anyway, my overall impression is that when you go see this movie, rather than expecting a spiritual roller coaster, just be prepared to know the violence and physical abuse Jesus was put through during the passion. The violence is realistic, the blood sprays, etc. I would have rather it had some sort of spiritual vibe, though.

Well, I don't think it was ever meant to be spiritual, it was supposed to show the passion of christ. In most movies or documentaries or whatever you're watching they smooth it over, not truely showing the suffering he went through. This movie should be a good wake up call about who killed Jesus and what they put him through.

uh, I don't think anyone meant it to be a "wake up call" to anyone. whoever "killed" Christ already knows it. and it's not like it's their fault anymore. sure, it showed the passion of Christ, but that time was also very spiritual. There were flashbacks in the movie to things like the Sermon on the Mount, the Last Supper, but I just felt there was no real "Jesus" in any of it. well, maybe not... I mean... Aall I'm really saying was that it didn't spiritually move me like I thought seeing the passion of Christ "first hand" would. thats all

I meant a wake up call in general, not that that was what the movie's point was. The church has been trying to smooth it over for years and years. It's good that somebody's had the guts to bother to show it.

What's the world coming to? I agree with Aaron! *hides*
People forget what Jesus went through, or romanticize it. And yes, you can romanticize something like that. Even if you aren't a Christian, they've "proven" Jesus was a real man, and was crucified. (I have no source at this time, hence the " ") If you are a Christian, however, and see the brutality and violence done to an innocent man for you, then yeah, I'd imagine that would be extremely moving, spiritually and otherwise. Going to see it Tuesday, I believe.

Yeah they've Proven it through records that the Roman Governors kept according to my RE Teacher, although he claims there is no evidence that Jesus was Crucified.
