Michael Hargon, 27, his wife Rebecca Hargon, 29, and their son James Patrick Hargon, 4

JACKSON, Miss. (Feb. 19) - Nearly a week has passed since relatives of Michael and Rebecca Hargon last saw the young couple and their 4-year-old son, all of whom appear to have vanished amid unexplained violence.

Investigators spent three days searching the Hargons' house in the small town of Vaughan, about 40 miles north of Jackson, for clues to what might have happened the family.

What authorities found were dried blood droplets throughout the house, bullet holes in the walls and shell casings on the floor. There was no sign of robbery or forced entry. Dirty dishes were left in the sink. Rebecca's wedding and engagement rings were also left behind.

All three of the family's vehicles were accounted for.

Ten years ago, Michael Hargon's father was murdered on the same property, when it was a convenience store. Three men are serving prison sentences for that crime.

Authorities have said little about the current investigation, which is being treated as a missing persons case.

"We are getting a lot of phone calls from different places, but so far they haven't consisted of anything," Yazoo County Sheriff James T. Williams said.

Family members say Michael Hargon, 27, was last seen Saturday morning, when he had breakfast with a friend in nearby Canton.

Another friend, who was driving by the Hargons' home later that morning, noticed the front door of the house was open and one of the doors on Michael Hargon's pickup truck was open, but the family didn't appear to be around.

She told the Hargons' relatives what she saw, and when family members went to the home the three, including 4-year-old James Patrick, were gone.

"I just couldn't believe that somebody would do something to them," said Rebecca Hargon's father, Bill Hirtz, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Michael Hargon is a construction worker and his wife is a physical therapist's assistant.

"He's a good guy," Hirtz said. "I've talked to a lot of his friends that have known him for years ... As far as they know, Mike doesn't have an enemy."

Quotes!

Seems odd, no forced entry, meaning the door was unlocked, he had a key, or they knew him personally. And if her wedding/engagement ring was there, he probably wasn't trying to rob them. Pretty strange, sounds like revenge.

thanks

I doubt it, there are bullet casings, and blood, but that isn't conclusive, they could still be alive, but at least one, if not all will probably have been killed. And it would probably be all, no witnesses.

Updated article:

Quote:
VAUGHAN, Miss. (Feb. 20) - Bloodhounds, aircraft and the FBI scoured a wooded area of rural Mississippi Friday for a family of three missing since they disappeared Valentine's Day.

Vaughan, a small, tight-knit community about 40 miles north of Jackson, is the kind of place where residents generally don't take big-city safety precautions. Residents say they have been jarred by the disappearance of Michael and Rebecca Hargon and their young son, James Patrick.

"We don't worry about locking our doors," said Jewel Moore, who lives about a mile up the road from the Hargon family's modest brown brick home.

Rebecca Hargon's father, Bill Hirtz of Poplar Bluff, Mo., fought back tears as he stood outside the Hargons' house waiting for answers.

He said his 29-year-old daughter, a physical therapist's assistant, and her 27-year-old husband, a construction worker, have been married six years. James recently celebrated his fourth birthday.

Authorities have said little about the current investigation.

They are still treating the disappearances as missing person cases, although evidence points to something more: In the Hargons' house investigators found dried blood droplets, bullet holes and shell casings.

But there was no sign of robbery or forced entry. Rebecca Hargon's wedding and engagement rings were left behind. The family's three vehicles have been accounted for.

Now, searchers are combing roadsides and wooded areas for even the smallest of clues.

Ten years ago, Michael Hargon's father was slain on the same property, when it was a convenience store. Three men are serving prison sentences for that crime.

On Friday, experts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children ran bloodhounds out from the house. The dogs sniffed pieces of clothing, then moved south on the asphalt road, suggesting the family left the home in that direction, said dog handler Joe Canfield.

Relatives have offered a $25,000 reward for the Hargons' safe return, and Hirtz and others have appeared on national television to talk about the case.

sounds like a domestic dispute to me. Blood droplets and bullet holes don't tell us as the reader much... blood droplets could come from anything... blood spray would come from a gun. And they don't tell us about any blood analysis being done. It could all depend on who's blood it is. Second, the article seems to take a friends word to be a little too much. anyone can be a nice guy and have something go wrong. For all we know, the husband could have gone crazy, seen someone bleeding, thought he saw something, and shot at it, then taken his family away for safe keeping. I mean, there's a thousand possibilities. Of course... sorry... I want to be an FBI agent... I'm mostly analyzing to myself

But interesting story... let us know when they figure anything else out....

Seen his child or wife bleeding and shot at it, then taken his family away? That sounds REALLY far fetched to me

What can I say, I'm an X-Files fan No, I'm just saying, maybe the guy had a few screws loose upstairs... finally they just came out. I didn't mean he shot at the blood, just something that he thought he saw. yeah, far fetched, but so is anything this dumb article is coming up wiht. Its not very good reporting or writing.

it reports poor facts. Drop of blood, bullet holes, no one's seen them... how more general can you get? not like I expect it to give everything to the public, being under investigation and all, but it's poorly written because it gives off a sense that somethings wrong that there's an entire possibility that there might not be.

Of course they arn't going to go into details, it's just a newspaper article.

If there is blood and bullet casings/holes, there probably is something wrong

sure blood and bullets say somethings wrong, but thats all they really say or even analyze. like I said... who's blood is it? What type was the gun, where was it fired from, does it match up with any of the blood found...

ok... what I got from the article is that they think someone has taken this family or tried to kill them... they don't say anything about the possibility that it could be a domestic disturbance.

Well, isn't it rather obvious that it could be? It's not like they said it wasn't. And they probably haven't finished analyzing most of that stuff yet, anywho.

TAYLORSVILLE, Miss. (Feb. 25) - Investigators searching for a couple and their young son who disappeared on Valentine's Day said Saturday night they plan to charge a relative of the family in connection with their disappearance.

State Highway Patrol spokesman Warren Strain would not say what Earnest Lee Hargon would be charged with, but said charges were "adding up."

Authorities detained Hargon, an adopted cousin of the missing family, earlier Saturday and can hold him for 48 hours without charging him. "We will make that window," Strain said.

Investigators also searched Hargon's property in southern Mississippi on Saturday as they tried to solve the disappearance of Michael and Rebecca Hargon and their 4-year-old son, James Patrick.

There has been no trace of the family since Feb. 14. Lawmen reported finding blood and spent bullet casings at the family's home, but no signs of forced entry.

Authorities closed off a county road on both sides of Leaf River Veterinary Services as part of the investigation. The clinic is on Hargon's property, and his wife works there as a veterinarian, Strain said.

The search area included the clinic, Earnest Hargon's residence and the banks of the nearby Leaf River, Strain said. He said possible evidence was found but did not elaborate.

"We're very hopeful that the questioning and the search warrants will lead to a resolution about the whereabouts of the Hargon family," Strain told AP Radio. "The latest developments have been dramatic, groundbreaking. We are very confident that the resolution of this tragic and awful situation is imminent."

Several other people were being questioned but were not being detained, Strain said. Searchers were holding out hope that the family would be found alive, Strain said.

"Nothing has been ruled out," he said. "We are still hopeful."

The search, involving ground teams, dogs and a helicopter, was halted shortly before 7 p.m. because of darkness, Strain said.

Strain said there were five wood-frame structures in the area of the veterinary clinic and that crime laboratory teams were checking each building. Strain said officers were also searching the property, which includes woods.

Authorities declined to say whether they were looking for bodies or for other evidence.

Investigators also have been checking a piece of property Michael Hargon recently inherited from his uncle, Charles Hargon, to determine if it is linked to the disappearance, said Jennifer Hargon, Michael's sister. Earnest Hargon, Charles Hargon's adopted son, was not included in the will, she said.

Rebecca Hargon's aunt, Trudy Duncan of Poplar Bluff, Mo., said Saturday she had talked with family members in Mississippi about the search.

"I hope that they are OK. That's all I want," Duncan said. "All we want is to see the media with some beautiful faces on there."

Authorities have received about 400 tips, dozens related to a white van, Strain said. The van had been spotted in the area around the time they believe the family disappeared, investigators said.

A reward of $100,000 is being offered from information leading to the safe return of the Hargons.
