I have just finished it and realised there was an error.. They said that B'Elanna's father was Klingon.. This is not the case. B'Elanna's mother is Klingon and her father is Human.. Therefore making her part Klingon, part Human. Anyway.. What is with all that wierd stuff about 'The Hand'?? It is really confusing or something..

The hand stuff is confusing. At first I had no clue what it was about, but quite suddenly "The Farther Shore" will clue you in. I wont spoil it, but it's disappointing, if adequately revealing for the story.

Wow, how many topics for this are there now.

Have to say that I never noticed that error though you're right; she did have a human father but a Klingon mother...

Yeah, i didn't notice until the second time I read it, mostly because some people at another forum I go to were talking about it. It's in the part right before they all go to the party being help at SFHQ. My second time reading, I found a lot of mistakes... I can't remember them all. But I was suprised Christie Golden slipped up so much.

(^ agree on The Hand being disappointing... and a bit gross )

Hey, watch it. Everyone makes mistakes, this one was a minor one. I've contacted her about it, hopefully she'll reply back soon.

I don't see what she could have of value to say. All she could do would be to apologize. And books arn't supposed to have all kinds of mistakes, unless you don't want it to be believable.

Itcould be a misunderstanding between her writing and us her readers. Ever think of that?

Well it doesn't matter, she emailed me back and this should solve the issue:

Thanks for your kind words, I'm glad you enjoy my work.

OK, I'm going to post this on my website...I wish everyone who has emailed
me on this sent me a dollar, LOL!

Here's the deal.

In the original draft, I was going to have Miral show up at the banquet and
the line referred to a Klingon mother-in-law. The book evolved so that
Miral was the center of another subplot and I had Tom and B'Elanna have
dinner with her father instead, who is definitely human. The line should
have been changed to reflect this but the error got past:

Me
My three first readers
My editor
My copy editor
The folks who check these things at Pocket.

So you should all feel proud that YOU didn't miss it!

Have mercy on a writer who has three month deadlines...sometimes shorter.
It shouldn't have fallen through the cracks, but it did, and these things
happen.

Let's all move on.

Speaking of which, please spread the word that I have a new fantasy novel
coming out in July called ON FIRE'S WINGS for those readers who enjoy such
things; it's the first in a new series and I'm very excited about it.

And November and December will see the publication of VOYAGER novels OLD
WOUNDS and ENEMY OF MY ENEMY, which I'm working on right now.

I dearly hope yours is the last letter I receive on this boo boo.

Thanks,
Christie Golden

So, are the voyager books any good? Does it tell you about all of the main characters or just a few?

Kyle, unfortunately the books seem obsessed with Seven of Nine. Tuvok and Chakotay get so few mentions it's criminal. Torres gets the best stuff; her story is fantastic.

The Doctor was about to get caught up in a great plotline too, but for some reason the author forgot about it and focused on Seven (not really surprising).

If you like Seven, you'll like this book.

Her step-father, I think. If I'm not mistaken, it was mentioned in the book that her real father died at Wolf 359.
