PostMon Jan 26, 2004 7:06 pm    Man with a Meat Cleaver arrested in airport

I'm not sure about the exact facts with this, as it has just come up in a newsflash but some person with a meat cleaver has just been arrested at an airport. I wonder what on earth he was doing with that in an airport? I'll try and update this when more information comes avaliable.

'Cleaver' air passenger released

A man arrested at Humberside Airport after he was allegedly found with a meat cleaver, has been released without charge.

The 31-year-old was detained at the airport on Sunday.

Humberside Police said the man was taken to Scunthorpe police station for questioning after arriving at the airport at 1500 GMT.

The passenger had been due to board a flight to Amsterdam, but was detained in the airport's security area.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Airport, Anja Hazebroek, said the passenger was stopped at the security search area and immediately handed over to the police.

"He was a passenger and had a boarding card, but as soon as he reached the security search area it was picked up on straight away".

The incident comes only weeks after a BBC Inside Out programme showed a journalist and two cameramen wandering among the planes on the airport's manoeuvring area before being challenged.

Jeas, I can't believe that. That could have been a very bad situation.

Maybe he found the in-flight cutlery inadequate.
