The point of this "War" is: There is no point. George Bush just did all this as a publicity stunt so his name would go down in history.

A publicity stunt? Has someone watched "Wag the Dog" recently? You really do need to pay attention to what's going on around you.
For that to have been a publicity stunt, Bush would have had to start everything in motion over twenty years ago... well over.

^I don't know. . . Bush is all about image. He and his father seemed to have learned everything they need to know about politics from Ronald Reagan. Like Reagan, Bush is like a figurehead propped up by his staff (especially in the case of Karl Rove). I'm sure it would not hurt Bush's policies to be realized if he can attach a historically significant mood to them.

I wonder if Kerry, Dean, or all those other presidential hopefuls fantasize about going down in history for halting Bush's policies.

He may very well be taking advantage of the publicity in the situation he finds himself in, but there is no way he got permission for over 500 Americans to be killed for a "publicity stunt".

^I agree that it's not a publicity stunt. Paul Marshall was probably just exaggerating to make a point.

I think it was good that Saddam was arrested but the US shouldn't have started the war without permission I think.

Permission from whom, the UN?

Perhaps from Saddam himself...

How about from the American people. A lot of American people are against this war and many more Americans are growing weary of it as drags on and on without any purposeful conclusion, other than Iraq may become a theocracy like Iran and US companies will get nifty little construction and oil contracts.

Well, that just seems silly. Nothing would be done objectivley if you had to ask the peoples permission all the time. I personally support the war, we are doing ALOT to help the people over there. If we didn't find any WMD, then at least we gave those people a chance to live.

His permission was getting, elected, this gives him 4 years of 'permission' to do what he feels is best for America and the world, plus he had an over 50% approval rating on all of the polls I saw deeling with the issue.

^Exactly. And Congress also gave permission. Congress is an extension of the people. If you didn't make your feelings known to your local government reps, who's fault is that?

Who elected him? Gore got the popular vote, Bush just got the electoral college vote.

Hellloooooo, this was 3 years ago,
Bush obviously won, and THANK GOD he did. Can you imagine Al Gore on 9/11? "Please, Osama, "PRESIDENT Osama", the country is yours, please don't hurt me".

We'll go in circles on the "who won" thing, I think it's rather obvious myself, but hey. So I'm just going to let that go.

And the electoral college, all throughout American history, has been there.

And apparently, again, the media is against the war. How much do you see of the good things? Hardly any. About 509 Americans killed. In ONE YEAR of war. (I know it was officially ended) I'd say that's damn good. Show what's going on while they aren't fighting, too. Do you see the pics of the girls now in school? Hmmm? The people now free to protest? They learned that one quickly, The soldiers caring for people? Helping rebuild? You never see that. But if you bother to look, really look, for facts, you'll find them. Tell me, where was Dan Rather mere months before the war started? What was our buddy, and "ally" Jacques up to?

^The media is definantly biased. According to NPR and NBC, the war is our new Vietnam; according to Fox, the war is a success. It's neither. The war is a success to those who favor Bush's Reagan-Thatcherite neoliberalism but it is a failure to those in favor of foreign policy led by the UN and other such alliances. Either way, foriegn relations have been permanently shaken. The UN is losing legitimacy, it has already been pulling out of areas in Iraq and Afghanistan. European nationalism has been splintered -- you have the Europhiles urging closer and closer unity in the EU as a way of competeing with US power; the UK being drawn way the EU by its strong alliance with the US; and the EU is itself split between pro-war countries like Italy and Spain and anti-war countries like Germany and France.

I'm not too awful upset about the UN. The more research I did on it, the more ludicrous it became.
And the rest of it is Biblical, whether you believe in it or not. This world is well on it's way to a one world government, and the US will fall, without a single shot being fired.

[EDIT] But lets not get all theological,

^I disagree. I think w're heading back into a world of multiple super-powers. The new super-powers will be the EU (Euro nationalism is splintered but the euro currency is growing strong, this will override the Iraq issue and a stronger European unity will be founded because money and not rhetoric determines policies) and the People's Republic of China (which will have the world's largest economy by 2006 and already has the world's largest military and a strong position in the World Trade Organization).
It's not really Biblical but Orwellian.

The Germans, French and UN government bodies = about nothing

As for the fall of the U.S. lets hope we dont live to see the day, I bet it could be one of the worst days in the Earths history.

Dont think EU will become a superpower though, just to European.

Have you read the Bible?

And listen to the chatter. The other countries are saying we are "too big for our britches", as antiquated as that is, and that they must band together so that we don't get any larger. (powerful)

This will all go back to the "Big Bad US" thinks that they are world police. Well, when resolutions are made, by the UN, and not enforced, also by the UN, someone with the balls has to step up.

I think we are a long way from a one world government like the one described in the Bible. But I'm sure this discussion means nothing to somebody who doesn't believe in the Bible.

We should not under-estimate the EU. It has begun growing a lot in recent years with new enthusiasm from Eastern European nations and Turkey. The EU has even began to build a military and, like I said, the euro may soon rival the US dollar.
