The After Journey

I was inspired after reading the Lord of the Rings book. After learning that Legolas could have died, I decided to write my own view of what may have happened, I hope you enjoy it!

“Come on Gimli!” Cried Legolas. Gimli slacking behind hurried his pace; they were on their jolly way.
“Legolas, I need a break.” Huffed Gimli. Legolas stopped and sighed.
“It has only been a few hours since we last had one.” He complained.
“I’m not going another foot!” At that Gimli sat down and opened his pack. He looked inside and sighed. -Only Lembas bread for three days now, why can’t the Elf go and use one of his arrows and hunt some of those rabbits? - Gimli though to himself, “I’m tired of Lembas bread! Can’t you go and get some rabbits?”
“I have already told you Gimli, I will not waist one of my arrows on innocent animals, Lembas bread will do until we reach Gondor and can speak to Aragorn. Until then, it’s Lembas.” Gimli grimly ate it and took a drink, and then they set off again. Over the horizon they went walking, why they took no horses, who knows? , Until they finally reached the gates of Gondor.
“Who goes there?” The guard yelled from atop the gate.
“Can you tell? It is Legolas the Elf and Gimli the Dwarf!” Legolas cried up.
“I don’t believe it! Open the gates!” The gates opened and Gimli and Legolas walked in. They looked around; the placed looked much better since the last time they were there. The guard came down.
“Can you tell the king of our arrival?” Gimli asked.
“Right away!” The guard said than ran off. He came back soon, “The king wishes to see you. Follow me.” Legolas laughed and followed with Gimli close behind. Soon they reached the palace doors. “Go on in.”
The guards at the doors opened them and Legolas and Gimli walked in. There was Aragorn sitting beside Arwen in the thrones.
“Legolas! Gimli! It is great to see you! How have you been?” Aragorn said standing up.
“Our journey has been long. But were fine. And it is also good to see you to.” Legolas replied. Aragorn invited them to sit and they talked for hours.
“Where are you going?” Aragorn asked.
“We are not sure, but we believe it is our death.” Answered Legolas. Arwen looked at him unsurprised but Aragorn was shocked. He gaped.
“But..but... why would you want to go on such a journey?” He asked.
“Aragorn, do you remember the message Gandalph told us? Well I have indeed seen the Sea Gulls cry by the sea. And it means my death. Gimli made his own to come with me.” Legolas looked at Gimli and smiled.
“I agreed to go because I’m Legolas’ friend, and I would see it no other way.” Gimli said. Aragorn gave them a place to sleep and in the morning they set off again, this time with a horse. Gimli refused a pony so he rode behind Legolas, just like old days. But Aragorn didn’t send them off without a packhorse. Their packs were on the packhorse and their horse was a strong one. They set off for the Shire, to say good bye to their friends there.
They stopped at nightfall and made camp. Gimli was happy to see some “real food” as he called it, rather than Lembas bread. Then he layed down and fell into a soft sleep. Legolas on the other hand, didn’t fall asleep fast at all. He sat by the fire looking at the stars and was deep in thought. He felt something in the air, it was tense. But he soon fell asleep, restless, but none the less, asleep.
Legolas was up early in the morning, his sleep was lacked but it didn’t show, he woke Gimli well after sunrise.
“Well, I see Master Elf slept in.” Gimli said jokingly.
“Actually, I was up at sunrise. So ‘twas you who slept in.” Legolas replied in a cold tone. Gimli looked at him surprised. They repacked their things and set off again. This time they covered more miles than the day before. They were now only three days travel away. Legolas sleep at ease this night; the air seemed less tense and calmer.
They woke before sunrise and ate breakfast. Then they sat around for a while and talked, when the sun raised they set out again. This day they the air was again tense, so Legolas kept a close watch. When they came to a forest, they went through slowly, soon Legolas calmed some and the day went by uneventful, but day is not night. When they settled down for a dinner and sleep, Legolas heard something. He ignored it at first, but when he kept hearing it, he began to wonder. Gimli was already asleep so he let him be, but he did not wander far, in fear for his friend. Instead he quietly put out the fire and went into the darkness. He heard some twigs snap and raised his sword, he couldn’t see to shoot, and prepared for someone.
With his sword drawn, he hid in the shadows, but to his surprise no Orc, or half Orc or whatever came. But a small Elf girl. Legolas quickly put away his sword and came out of the shadow into the moonlight. She squealed and tried to run but he caught her.
“Shh! I’m not going to hurt you, you’ve got to be quiet, and there’s Orc’s around.” He let her go and she stared at him.
“Who are you?” She asked in a small voice.
“I am Legolas Greenleaf of the Mirkwood forest clan; may I ask who you are?” Legolas replied.
“I’m Tri Elendil, but you can call me Legola, Which would be easier for my name is not to be spoken yet.” She replied in her small voice.
“And why not?” Legolas asked.
“Because I am only a reflection of the future. I do not yet exist, so you must introduce me introduce me as Legola. I can not reveal my parents or distinct relatives. But I can tell you this, I was sent here to stop something from happening. If this happens, Middle Earth is doomed to evil power. But this time it is not a ring, it is a power unlike any other. Beware the stranger’s of the South. They are not trustable. Now that you have heard my part, I only ask one thing of you. Let me travel with you to The Shire.” She said in a rather adult voice.
“I will have to ask Gimli, but I am sure he won’t mind.”
From the distance Gimli could be heard calling for Legolas, he introduced Tri as Legola and Gimli happily accepted that she should travel with them, at least to the Shire. But Gimli couldn’t help but notice that the young Elf extremely looked like Legolas. But he said nothing. Soon they started off again and much conversation went on. Gimli asked once where Legola had came from, but she replied, “The deep forest.” and that was that. Soon talk went to the fellowship and old times.
“Boromir, where do we start? Well his brother Faramir was a sight for sore eyes. Especially when his father tried to burn them both. But Boromir seemed more content then it seemed, he was always up to something. When he died, I gave him honor, and we sent him over the fall, but Boromir is to be remembered with respect, and that is how it will be.” Legolas bowed his head and so did Gimli, and, now as Gimli called her, Little Legola did to.
“Tell me about Aragorn or Gandalf!” She said when they rose their heads.
Legolas laughed, “All right! Well Aragorn was by far the best fighter I have ever seen! And the best king. He is lucky to have so many connections. Especially with the Elves, for our sight is very keen. But the Dwarfs are also good fighters. Especially dear Gimli here!” Gimli looked embarrassed.
“Excuse me friends, I am going to wash up.” At that Gimli stood up and left. But he just went by the river and sat. Legolas came over.
“What is it Gimli? I can tell when something is wrong.” Gimli looked at him.
“Legolas, tell me the truth about Little Legola. I think your hiding something, now out with it!” Legolas stared in shock at Gimli.
“Gimli, that is not something to talk about right now. Now come on, its time for sleep.” Legolas and Gimli went back to the fire where Legola was already sleeping peacefully. Gimli tossed and turned until he heard Legolas snoring, then he sat up and thought to himself. After a while he fell asleep.
Legolas knew Gimli was up, because he was awake also. He didn’t want to disturb Gimli, so he turned over and just sat there for a while listening. Then his mind began to wander, but not to a war they fighted long ago, but to a small girl who only wanted to travel to the Shire. Why was her mission so important? And why did they send her, only a child? When he knew Gimli actually was asleep he got up and went to the edge of their camp. The sun started to rise so he went and got Gimli and Legola up.
“Wake up sleepy head,” He called to her, ” It’s time to eat breakfast“ As she stirred Legolas turned and went and talked to Gimli.
“We’ll reach the Shire today Gimli.” He said.
“Yup.” Gimli responded. Legolas pulled out some of the food and gave some to Gimli and Legola then he went to scout.
“Keep and eye on her and one on the surrounding, with those Orcs about you never know.” At that he set off. He left the horses with Gimli and walked. When he got to the edge of the forest he looked out of the vast lands. If ever there was a thing to ponder and look at, this was it. It was beautiful. He didn’t see anything they should take special caution about so he went back to camp.
“It’s all clear, lets go.” Legolas said, he helped Legola on the packhorse and he and Gimli got on their regular one. So they set off. They took a break at noon and ate some food. Legola hurried up and ate, and then she went off walking.
“Don’t go too far! I can only say that to the edge of the bushes are clear,” Legolas called after her. Gimli once again pushed Legolas to tell him to truth about Legola, “I got her permission to tell you last night so here it goes...”
Legola didn’t mind that Legolas couldn’t ensure her safety past the bushes. She had a sword and a small Bow and a few Arrows. No one was going to hurt her, so why not? So she crossed the borders of the bushes. She stood gaping at the beauty of the lands they would cross. Then she sat down and drank some of the water she brought. She was thinking of a way of keeping Gimli and Legolas from finding out her real family and what her real mission was. She was scared of talking in her sleep so she slept few hours. But no one mentioned her talking as she slept so she had little to fear.
In the bushes an Orc studied the little Elf girl who had came out of the bushes. She looked much like his master described and he was sure she was the one, which was why he sent his partner to ask his master. Soon his partner came huffing, “Master says it’s the one, and we should pursue and only take her if she’s alone, and in the open.” He informed him.
Legolas knew something was wrong, so he went to get Legola, leaving Gimli alone, he put out the fire and sat down day dreaming.
Legola turned around and went back into the bushes. She heard what the Orcs had planned, just as her father and her had planned many years from now, they were going to try and take her. She came up to Legolas, “Hello Legolas, are you looking for me?”
Legolas looked at her in surprise, “Yes, Don’t go off again, Orcs are near by.” Legolas turned and walked back to camp, “Gimli, Orcs are near by, and we need to head out.” Gimli nodded and they got on the horses and set out. They crossed through the bushes into the field like area. They went at a steady pace.
The Orcs followed slowly behind them. When the sun was halfway up, or Halfway down depending on how you looked at it, Legolas and the rest stopped. The Orcs hid behind a bush that grew every 10 feet or so.
“Stay together, were not going off alone just yet. Not until I can confirm there are no Orcs following us.” Legolas said, he looked around. He bent down and looked at the ground, “Someone came through here, maybe one or two days ago, three at the most..... Wait! They look like ranger prints!” Legolas looked closer, “Their defiantly rangers!” Gimli looked at him.
“So were following the path of rangers?”
“Yes Gimli, but where they turned off, no one knows. They are careful not to leave prints.” After they were finished they started off again, this time following the prints as much as they could.
“Did you hear that master? Rangers!” The Orc spoke to the older Orc.
“Yes I heard. Let’s go!” They ran off after them.
Gimli looked back slowly, and he spotted the Orcs, “Legolas.” He said , “There are two Orcs following us.” Legolas nodded his head and then slowly looked back. Sure enough, two Orcs were running behind a bush.
“Act as if you don’t see them,” He whispered. Gimli nodded. They came to a stop, “Legola stay with Gimli.” Gimli got down and Legolas helped Legola down. Legola nodded and walked over to Gimli. Legolas turned around and walked the way of the Orcs, “Nothing following us Gimli.” He called. Meanwhile Gimli was walking a little ahead.
“And nothing is on our trail for miles ahead.” Gimli called back.
In the bushes the Orcs laughed, “Two dumb elves and a really dumb Dwarf, how easy it will be to kill them all.” The younger Orc said.
“No! We are not to kill the youngest elf Sregon.” The older Orc said to Sregon.
“Do not speak my name Orophin!” Sregon complained.
“And you mustn’t speak mine!” Orophin yelled.
Legolas rolled his eyes. The Orcs were gabbing so loud that he could shot him with his eyes closed and dizzy. “Whoever goes in the bushes! Reveal yourselves!”
Sregon and Orophin’s eye’s widened in surprise. They didn’t come out though, they just snuggled deeper.
