PostThu Dec 11, 2003 3:12 pm    Star Wars Original Trilogy on DVD

I've done various searches on the internet and have come across conflicting information and several rumours.

Basically, I would like to know if/when the Original Star Wars Trilogy will be coming to DVD?

I've heard various news about this. One site said that there are no plans ever for it to happen. Others have said we'll see releases after Episode III has been released. Others tell me that they are already on DVD in the U.S. only but I can find nothing about this.

Can anyone give me any news please?

I hope it happens, personally. The Original trilogy on DVD with audio commentaries by George Lucas and various actors/actresses. And plenty of behind the scenes stuff too.

Thank you

Well in this months issue of "Starburst" (UK) it said that the original trilogy DVDs WILL be released next year, 2004.
I've also read on www.theforce.net that the films will be released individually, one-by-one. I'm not sure how they'll do it; I imagine there will be deleted scenes but many of those were incorporated into the Special Edition releases...I imagine there'll be documentaries about the films, its continuing success, etc. Probably a commentary by George Lucas at the least...

I was wondering if the films will be the original films or the Special Editions though...?

Thank you for the information, Delta Flyer. I don't read Starburst so I wouldn't have known about it.

I'd rather it was the original films released myself. But I'm probably in the minority when it comes to that opinion...

Normally I don't either. My sister had bought it for the Lord of the Rings Return of the King feature on the front page and I was flicking through it when I found a feature on Attack of the Clones - in it mentioned the above information.

I also would rather have the "original" original trilogy. The Special Edition scenes would be included but in the form of "Deleted Scenes" - that way they are there for those who want them and those who don't.

Lindley has just told me that, despite the information in the magazine, there has been no official confirmation that the DVDs will be released. The magazine lies!

Eh? I don't recall saying that.......when?

My understanding is that the original trilogy will never be released. Probably not the Special Editions either.

However, there's likely to be an "Ultimate Edition" of ANH, TESB, and ROTJ which will be on DVD at some point.

Sorry that did come out wrong. In the "Jedi Business" topic you told me that there had been no official confirmation that they would be released. In the magazine it said that it had been, and I quote, "confirmed" that they would be released next year. Hence my belief that the magazine was wrong.

You never said the magazine lied, that was something I said but forgot to put a line break in between to show that they were seperate comments. Again, sorry; Lindley made no comment about the magazine lying - it was me that said that.

I've read on www.theforce.net (whether true or not) that they've had information from sources working at institutions that will produce the DVDs, that they are in development for release in individual sets. Presumably once they've all been released they'll be re-released in a special boxset...

As I say though I have no idea whether that is true or not...
