Once again, just go to http://www.startrek.com to find out. The first episode ever is 'The Cage'. The site doesn't give a date made though. It was probably done in 1966.

They've been shown... I've seen " The Cage " quite a few times on tv.

^ I think you're right. They didn't show "The Cage" originally, as they abandoned that idea, opting instead for Kirk and his crew...

I thought "The Cage" was pretty good but I thought "Where No Man Has Gone Before" was much better. And I also think "Where No Man Has Gone Before" is one of the scariest TOS episodes ever along with "By Any Other Name".

PostTue Jan 20, 2004 6:04 pm    1st TOS episode

The first episode was the pilot- 'The Cage' It's the one with Christopher Pike as the captain.

The first Kirk episode was actually "Where No Man Has Gone Before" this was considered the second pilot. Notice the different look of the uniforms and equipment. I think it was like the fifth episode to air though.

The first episode aired on TV was "The Man Trap". That's the one with the salt vampire.

If you want to take a long look back at the roots of trek- check out the movie "Forbidden Planet." TOS really followed the formula they laid out in this movie. It also neat to see Leslie Neilson as 'the right stuff' kirky kind of captain.
