PostFri Oct 31, 2003 11:07 pm    Student Lit on Fire in a Prank

Quote:
Student Burned in Ellsworth

More than 400 students were in the Ellsworth High School gymnasium, dressed in costumes for their annual “Spook Day.”

They were playing games when a student allegedly flicked a lighter as part of a prank, and accidentally set the student next to him on fire.

"He ran down to the floor and tried rolling. Some of the students and teachers got some kind of shirts and parts of costumes and tried to beat out the fire." Said Ellsworth High student Tommy Heskett.

"I can certainly understand why emotions are high and I think that's true of the staff as well. I think everyone feels this is one of those situations that should never have happened and unfortunately someone has been seriously hurt." Said Ellsworth Superintendent Jack Turcotte.

14-year-old Donald Awalt was flown to a hospital in Boston, where he's been upgraded to serious condition with burns to his back and legs.

The 15-year-old boy who police say started the fire has been charged with arson, and aggravated assault. He was taken to the Charleston correctional facility.

The kid who got burned was in a snipers outfit. The dried grass and everything that they wear, if you've ever seen one.

Didn't someone say," An idiot is born every minute "? That means, that in the last 24 hrs., there have been 1440 idiots born.
Let's just hope that they're all born in the middle east, or there's gonna be more ppl catching on fire in America.

The voice from the other side responded, "You fool you've dialed the wrong extension! Do you know who you're talking to, dumbo?"

"No," replied the trainee.
"It's the CEO of the company, you fool!"

The trainee shouts back, "And do YOU know who YOU are talking to, you fool?!"
"No." replied the CEO indignantly.

"Good!" replied the trainee, and puts down the phone.

Its a lot more than that. But dont worry; soon we will have nerve stapling.

Why did he flick his lighter...? Did he hurt the other person on purpose?

This kid is scarred for life, could've died. And the other kid now has a criminal record. Neither is over 15. This is a rather serious topic, if you can't get a handle on that, there are other places to post.

I too am scarred for life. I know how it feels. The humor makes it easier to deal with. Yes I do have a lighter and yes I do play with it a lot.

I have a friend, she has 3rd degree burns over 50% of her body. She can't grow hair on one side of her head. She has no ear on that same side. Skin grafts are not possible. She's had to have many surgeries so that she can walk.

Know how she got burned? When she was an infant, her older brothers were playing with lighters. Shooting the lighter fluid all over the house. Such a fun game. The fluid ignited. Still fun?
You'll forgive me if I don't see the humor in what you are saying. This boy will never be the same again, because of stupidity.

And people who play with lighters, or even matches? They, too, are stupid.

I agree with T, I also Know people that have had serious Burns. It's nothing to Joke about, These people will never be the same again.

I myself had a bad experience with Fire, on a Scouting Trip someone thought it would be funny to Fake push me into the fire I was tending. They let go accidentally, and I fell in the fire. To keep myself from getting burned, Put my hands out to catch me and now I no longer have feeling and Heat sensory on the Top Half of My Fingers because of that.

I don't think fireworks are funny at all, or fire, and a 10 year old boy I know is blind in one eye because some 13 yearolds threw a banned firework in his face. The teenagers haven't been caught. I think that's totally unjust, if that boy has partially lost his sight and the boys aren't even caught or reprimanded. Then again, what jail sentence can pay back sight and a tortured memory?

I have a friend who had a birthday party. I was there. She had to dogs, snowy and sunny. Her dad told her to go light the grill, so she did. It got nocked over. She burned most of the skin on her arms and legs off, and it killed both her dogs. I watched it happen.

Yet you think playing with lighters is fun. Sorry if I don't think much of that.
I've lost everything (material) to fire 3 times. Apparently not playing with fire is for those with common sense...
