I've only read "The Ashes of Eden" and it was a really good book with a decent plot; probably my favourite TOS book. I liked the ending of the book the best, seeing the "end" of the Enterprise-A was good. I didn't expect THAT ending lol.
One thing though, it annoys me how in Shatner's books, Kirk is always made to seem the best character and in a way, I think he diminishes the other characters...pitting Chekov and Sulu against each other, Chekov hitting Sulu I thought that came from nowhere. Sure he'd be angry but would he hit him with them being good friends, I don't know. Maybe it's just me.
Another thing, Kirk must be getting on a bit in these books yet he's running round, beating people up, getting beat up and being the all-round action guy. But surely he's too old for that! OK fair enough, if the planet in Ashes of Eden does give you back your youth, so be it. But it happens in most of the other books as well!
