The child is a what-a-huh?
The book is good, didn't think it had as much impact as the first DS9 relaunch books, Avatar 1 & Avatar 2 but good nonetheless...at first, I didn't like Homecoming but after reading The Farther Shore, more of Homecoming made sense. I'm looking forward to re-reading both of the novels together rather than having a month gap in between

i considered this to but have you read Mosaic? its the life story of janeway and it never mentioned anything like that. she seemed to have a really happy childhood and was really close to her dad so i dont know who it is. maybe its seven

It's revealed who it is in the Further Shore.

It was the new Borg Queen

Where do you live?
In the UK it came out in June and The Farther Shore in July. I've never seen either book in WHSmiths, only in Ottaker's down south. I ordered mine from Amazon though lol.

Homecoming 6/10 - I lost interest; it was too slow but had a great ending (Quite a good cliffhanger for a book)

The Farther Shore 9/10 - Alot faster and more action-packed than the first book. Also a good resolution, clearing up alot of the plot strands from the first book. In a way I wish some could have been left open so that they could have been furthered in future relaunch books. Again, a good ending.

Lol, you said that at the beginning.

I wonder what the future relaunch books will be like? I somehow hope that they put Janeway back on board Voyager. It wouldn't be the same with Chakotay as Captain...

I wonder what themes the books will be based on...I hope that they maintain the same continuity exemplified in the DS9 relaunch...

well we can hope, or just write them ourselves
and another thing about the books, there was a lot of action in them

I wish they'd put more detail in the action scenes in Trek books, try and build up the tension a bit. Do something a little more than "Janeway fired at two of them"...put a bit more detail in there...Maybe it's just me lol.

Just as a matter of interest how old are you all? I was wondering which age market reads the books. I'm 17...I always thought that the books were aimed at a much younger audience...

I think the books are aimed at young teens...besides even little kids seem to swear these days.

I was in the bank and this little kid and his mum were there. and the mum said something like "hold this for me" and the kid goes "f**k off!"

I was horrified! I never even knew words like that existed when I was their age! Naive ignorant me lol...

The main books are aimed at young adults. The Starfleet Academy books are aimed at younger readers.

I'm 17, btw

Generally speaking I read books that are designed for an older market (and by that I don't mean *beep* lol) so when I read the Trek books they sometimes seem a bit simplistic.

...and that sounded amazingly big-headed lol. It wasn't meant to sound that way.

oooo, I loved those books. I went nuts when I couldn't get the farther shore till over a month or 2 after I read homecoming. Eesh. I give them both a 10... 2 thumbs up! I think the books are aimed at older teens/young adults. The 15-25 market, probably. I'm 15. I highly doubt they're aimed at younger teens, they use a lot of very complex words in there. I've expanded my vocabulary by about 10-15 words just from reading trek books, lol. Like portentous... what 12-13 year old knows what portentous means? Or conundrum. I just learned that word yesterday... haha. Yeah, trek books are aimed towards the slightly older audience.

PS: for all of you who don't know, the girl is Covington or whatever her name is. Harry's girlfriend's boss woman. I'm so mean... muahahaha

I havent read this book yet. Though I have been trying to find a store that sells it. I have been able to find the latter.. But Homecoming is proving quite difficult.
