Why does always go out alone without backup on some(most) away missions? He's the Captain goddammit! He's too important to risk. And he ALWAYS goes without weapons too. He WANTS to get killed!

On the episode with the Tholians and they pick up that future ship, I thought it was funny that they pulled it into the shuttlebay and were inspecting it without any weapons at all. Reed had to walk across the shuttlebay, open a weapons locker and get out a pistol...what would have happened if there was a naughty alien guy in there waiting?

And then, to make matters worse, they open the hatch and Archer is first in. He doesn't scan the atmosphere or anything he just smells it, taking in a big lungful of air....now what if that had have been poisoned or something...

I agree some of the things he does are a bit daft lol.

^Some?

There was an entire episode based around a stupid decision. Archer discovered in "Vox Sola" that the Kritassans are offended by the slightest things----like eating in public.

So what does he do? He brings his dog along on the first diplomatic mission to their homeworld!

Can you GET any more daft than that?!

No argument there. I mean, usually the captain is the insightful great character who seems to have all the answers. This one could use a babysitter.

^Really? She would take personal offence? She must be pretty wired then. Also, if kate mulgrew would take offence to that, scott bakula would take even more offence!

Quite frankly, Bob has been a user of this forum for quite some time. He's abided by the rules a lot more than you have, so I see no reason why you should try to draw attention to an innocent user. As Los says, no one really cares about the actual identity of Bob. All your attempts at "outting" Bob do is point out how truly clueless you really are.

I just remembered another incident where Archer acts stupid.... "Fortunate Son"...he lets Mayweather leave the helm to talk to the acting-captain of the Fortunate...Mayweather is there wandering round the bridge trying to get <acting-captain> to give up the hostage...all those aggressive, violent nausicaans around and theres nobody to steer the ship if they start firing....

Protocol, perhaps not. Common sense, yes.

^ He's not a fool....he's a bear.

Proof?

(No offence to Archer or Bakula intended......(or Jim Henson..)
I noticed this tonight when I was watching Enterprise (I don't normally, it's the first episode I've seen, and it probably would have helped if it wasn't the second part, I might have understood it better...) But it's the one at the start of a series, they go back in time or something and end up destroying a city, and he had dusty eyebrows, and I was just like.....scary....

Come on people, u gotta realize, archer is the first deep space captain. he's the first guy to ever do this. The reason they HAVE regulations later is to keep the other captains from making his mistakes. he's the guy who ahs to MAKE the mistakes, so they can know what to put in the regulations. He doesn't have the benefit of other captain's experiences, he's got to play it all by ear. My complant with archer is, why is he so dang cranky? I'm serious, he goes around snapping at everyone constantly. he needs to work on his temper, a captain shouldn't be that much of a loose cannon. he's still cool tho

hehehehehe captain archer's a bear? lmbo i see the resemblance! Maybe the bear should fly the ship and archer can take over the big blue house... lmbo

Don't forget, we are in 2151, before cap'n Kirk and his cowboy diplomacy.
ST writer can't change the ways captain work/think BEFORE the original serie. It's reasonable to asume Archer will be MORE cowboy than Kirk.

Don't forget this is the first time a mission like this has been undertaken. Everything is new to the crew of the enterprise, so what i'm trying to say is that we/they are trying to create a series that is supposidly behind in technology like as in Startrek TOS. Captain Kirk likes fist fights, so we are trying to take everything the crew of the Enterprise of the Original series did and take it one step back. (does this make sense?)
