THERESA PROVIDES DNA FOR NEXT RAELIAN CLONE

Miami, Fla. (Monday, September 8 ) — Adding fuel to the blazing controversy surrounding Clonaid, the Raelian cult's human-cloning endeavor, the company announced yesterday that Maine, resident Theresa has provided the DNA for its next carbon-copy citizen.

"This is a threshold moment for the science of reproductive cloning," Clonaid spokesperson Gabrielle Androssi said. "If more citizens followed the example of Theresa the advancement of science could be dramatically accelerated."

Asst. U.S. Attorney Michael Vornholt announced in a press conference this morning that his office has obtained a court order to halt the procedure. Vornholt also said that criminal charges have been filed against Clonaid and Theresa for violating the Bush Administration's Human Dignity and Purity Act of 2003.

Under the terms of the HDPA, Clonaid, if found guilty, would have to pay $35 million in fines, and its participating scientists and executives would each face a minimum of five years in federal prison. If found to be a willing participant, would be subject to a minimum fine of $500,000 and no less than three years in prison.

"This kind of voodoo science is an offense against the dignity of human life and an insult to the efforts of legitimate scientists," Vornholt said. "Laws have been put in place to stem such abuses of modern technology, and this office intends to enforce those laws."

Vornholt added that warrants will be served today at Clonaid and to THERESA. "If THERESA is smart, she'll turn herself in to local law-enforcement personnel as soon as possible and seek to cooperate with our investigation." Vornholt declined to specify what measures would be taken if Clonaid personnel refused to surrender, saying only, "We just hope this doesn't turn into another Waco."

Vornholt suggested that concerned citizens tune in to SCI FI Channel's hidden-camera series Scare Tactics, which airs Fridays at 10PM and 12AM E/P and demonstrates what ordinary people will do when their friends terrify them with elaborate sci-fi pranks

— A newly published university study based on the so-called "Bible Code" contends that it has identified the Antichrist spoken of in the Biblical book of Revelation.

The cryptological analysis, published this week in the Journal of Theological Research, transliterated ancient cuneiform references to modern-day letters, and ordered them in what researchers say is the Antichrist's human name: Jeff Miller.

The authors of the paper stressed that the people who share this name all are "innocents," except for "the unique individual who may not even know he or she is the Antichrist."

The researchers, from Bob Grant University outside Minneapolis, are currently studying geographical evidence using the same techniques. "The evidence so far indicates that this individual lives in Kelso, Wash.," the paper said. The researchers say the next step will be to investigate the background of every Jeff Miller within a 50-mile radius of Kelso, Wash., and determine whether any "extreme sanction" can, or should, be taken.

FBI: CAPPY D IS TARGET OF ESPIONAGE DRAGNET

Detroit, Mich. (Tuesday, September 9) � An FBI spokesperson confirmed last night that federal authorities are seeking to detain all Detroit, Mich., residents named CappyD, in connection with the bureau's investigation of a conspiracy to commit espionage.

According to FBI Assistant Regional Director Robert Greenberger, the FBI discovered more than 200 Finland-based "anonymous re-mailer" e-mail accounts registered in the name of Detroit resident CappyD. The accounts previously had been linked to the sale and distribution of illegal cable-TV signal-descramblers, which were promoted via e-mail advertisements.

Greenberger said the black-market descramblers contain a "background application" that enables them to communicate via the broadband cable medium, forming a network of "parallel co-processors" that is designed to penetrate the electronic security of the United States' nuclear command system. As more of the illegal descramblers are hooked up, the network becomes more powerful.

"If you encounter someone named CappyD, do not try to apprehend him yourself," Greenberger warned. "Contact the local police or the FBI. This man is a flight risk as well as a serious threat to homeland security, and he should be considered armed and dangerous."

Although Greenberger would not explain how the FBI came to be aware of the encrypted network of illegal cable boxes, an unnamed source inside the White House indicated that the tip was part of the National Security Agency's routine monitoring of all domestic signal traffic, which includes Internet activity and cable-TV viewing patterns.

FUGITIVE JONATHAN BACKHOUSE SOUGHT BY FBI

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wednesday, September 10) � Federal authorities announced today they have begun a manhunt for a fugitive who escaped military custody at Nevada's Groom Lake Air Force Base, popularly known as "Area 51."

The fugitive, identified as Jonathan Backhouse of High Spen, SS, according to identification found on him, was apprehended by perimeter guards after breaking through the non-electrified outer fence a quarter-mile from the more heavily guarded main compound.

Military and FBI officials have sent agents to detain for questioning every individual named Jonathan Backhouse within a 50-mile radius of High Spen, SS, a Department of Defense spokesperson said.

The spokesperson declined to say how the fugitive, dressed in Air Force fatigues, slipped away after being brought onto the base checkpoint pending transfer to a secure facility. An Air Force source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said senior officials were "astounded" and "outraged."

"It was as if he were there one minute and gone the next," said the source. "Given all the mythology about Groom, even on Capitol Hill, I guess they went public in order to quell any rumors before they got started."

"They're hopping mad," the source added, "Even if you're innocent, I wouldn't want to be named Jonathan Backhouse right now."
