emm Well Yeah Like Viral said you should check out the official site for full details, but Deep Space Nine was a Star Trek Series set roughly at the same time as TNG and was based on a Space Station orbiting Bajor which was until recently a Cardassian Mining Station -Terok Nor. The Series started off with a young Commander-Benjamin Sisko and showed how he became a single parent to his son Jake. Sisko is given the assignment of setting up DS9 to help prepare Bajor for the Entry into the Federation. Sisko is given some spiritual advice from the Bajorans and is believed to be their Emissary to the Prophets, he discovers the Celestial Temple which happens to be a stable wormhole leading to the Gamma Quadrant and Sisko Encounters the Prophets......The Saga Begins (See Emissary parts 1-2)

Deep Space Nine is about many things. In addition to the usual "Explore new cultures" thing, it was about the politics of the alpha quadrant; Including the Klingon/Cardassian war, the Federation/Klingon War, the Dominion War.....alliances, betrayals, faith.
On another level it is about a race of nonlinear aliens whom the Bajorans worship as Prophets.
Its about a lot of things, really.

I haven't seen a single episode of DS9 either. All of what I know about it is from the books.

Emm If you had read the rest of this Topic, you could have seen the Brief, or Very Brief Summary that has been posted up by several Members.
Referring back to the point on Religion putting people off DS9, I'd have to agree. I felt they took the Religion bit too far especially in the 7th Season and when the Prophets took out the Dominion fleet

^You're like me then----I discovered not only DS9, but all of Trek through the books. It was only later that I managed to watch the TV series.

A Call to Arms, Sacrifice of Angels, Tears of the Prophets and The Changing Face of Evil all feature some impressive battle scenes. What You Leave Behind did as well but I was disappointed with that; they simply re-used previous CGI footage...
