Eh. That episode would have been better at another point in the series. As it was, it broke up the Occupation Arc in a really distracting way.

I don't think the Dominion War Arc was used to its greatest possible effect.
DS9 seemed to flit between wartime and peacetime...one week they'd be at the front of the battle, leading the fleet in...the next it would be Sisko going to the holodeck....If it were me I'd have continued the war themes through a series of episodes rather than inter-spacing them with "non-war" episodes....if you get what I mean...

Even in war, there are moments of normalcy which will not be denied...

Yes but to me, there didn't seem to be enough emphasis on how harsh the war was...everyone still had their nice comfy little quarters on ships, they still had enough food, etc, etc...
I'm not explaining myself well, I know...
Put it this way - IMO it didn't seem like a question of whether the Federation would win the war, simply a matter of how and when...

Going with war eps for 2 seasons, 52 total eps, would have dulled down the show overall. Deep Space Nine was not at the front line, so things went on there besides the war. The war eps were great, and so were many of the eps that didn't deal as much with the war. The show, overall, in season's 6 and 7 was at it's peak because of the diverse nature of both the characters and plotlines, from war to personal issues, religious issues and character confrontations. Two of the finest seasons ever by any Trek show. Certainly better than any of VGR's 7 seasons.

Definately having every episode a war episode would have dulled the show down as you put it but I think that those war episodes should have been linked together in sets of 2 or 3 episodes to make the war seem more ongoing (for lack of a better word) and then have an episode back at the station about religion.
I thought Season 6 was probably the best of DS9...the "Final Chapter" didn't do much for me - I found some of the episodes such as that one with Nog roaming around the holodeck and the one where Ezri goes home a bit dull. Also, I was dissapointed how the Defiant was taken out in "The Changing Face of Evil". I would have preferred having more of the episode devoted to it...eg. Defiant gets damaged and has to limp through an asteroid belt or something dodging the jem hadar but is eventually destroyed....this would've been a refreshing change by having the ship unable to avoid the enemy as seems to happen in other episodes...
As it was, the effect of Defiant's destruction was diminished.
By the way, the Defiant in What You Leave Behind still has the same registry of the Defiant pre-Changing Face of Evil. I know that in a later episode the new-Defiant (Sau Paulo???? I can't remember, sorry) is renamed Defiant but the registry number should have remained that of the Sau Paulo's shouldn't it? Also, why wasn't the Defiant named the "Defiant-A" like the Enterprise was?

Stock footage.....classic!
But seriously, with the destruction of the original Defiant class pathfinder vehicle (ie. the first in its class to get proposed upgrades, the cloaking technology etc.), Starfleet commissioned the new Defiant (actually a recommissioning of the Sao Paolo as you mentioned). Unfortunately, with the destruction of the original, so too went the testbed and the NX designation. To put it simply, the Defiant FINALLY was commissioned (after four or five years) as a non-experimental vehicle, thus it received its normal commission of USS Defiant, NCC-74205.

Ah thanks for that, I hadn't thought about it like that - I'd forgotten the Defiant was a prototype....did it go through the series with the NX designation then? I always assumed it was an NCC but never thought to look...I suppose it must have the NX with it being a prototype though...
Does that mean that when the NX-02 is launched it will be NCC-02 or will that be classed as a prototype testbed as well and retain the NX designation?

Frankly, I wouldn't count on the folks in charge of ENT knowing the difference. They've already called Enterprise "an NX-class starship".

Dammit I thought Enterprise had the potential to become one of the best sci fi series but its rapidly going down the pan IMO...
The producers seem to have no respect or appreciation for the rest of the Trek "Universe" if that's the right word...
