Kirk would so kick ass. Everyone talks about how he just fought all of the time, and didn't think. The mans favorite game was chess! A game at which he beat Spock several times.
He may have been more brash, but Picard is such a pansy.
Picard: "Number one, I've just crapped my pants, you'll have to lead the away team."

i vote.... PICARD
because...
he is a better captain and he is smarter so he can think of many diff thing to beat over kurts head with.
hope that coment wasnt just for me cuase the 2 above me did teh same thing...

no competition picard has better leader ship qualities. kirk doesnt look the part of a leader (even when he goes fat and his face changes) and abit like archer.

Capt. Kirk is da man.
Kirk and Picard can both ride horses, think logically most of the time and both captained a ship called the Enterprise. That's where the similarities end that I can see.
One judo move and Picard would be on the ground... I've never seen Picard ever use martial arts.
If Picard was a better fighter, all Kirk would need to do is run away (that wouldn't happen) and Picard wouldn't be able to catch him... so Kirk would win.
If Kirk was a better fighter and Picard ran away, Kirk would catch him, 'cuz he runs faster and Kirk would win again.
Kirk had a better sparring partner (Spock) than Picard ever had... so, Kirk is better prepared to knock Picard down for the count.
Kirk would get most of the ladies... but, that's probably just 'cuz Kirk's hormones were always raging, and Picard was a lot more reserved.
I think that Kirk is a better strategist, too.
Kirk didn't need a mind reader to dictate what kind of decision he would make on every other episode.
Also, Kirk loved kids.

Hand to hand? Yeah Kirk would win, however it must be pointed out that Picard is an accomplished fencer and is in terrific shape (the Academy marathon?). Don't rule out Picard though, he is intelligent, resourceful and also among the youngest to be made captain of a starship. He is no slouch.

The truth is, you see Kirk fighting quite a few times in the episodes and TOS only had 3 seasons. I don't think Picard ever punched anyone in the 7 years of TNG.
I go for Picard. He's a lot more diplomatic and to me seems twice as intelligent. Although, I would hae to admit if we were to put both Kirk and Picard in the arena for a hand to hand combat, Kirk would probably win.

Kirk has had a few more hand to hand fights than Picard, but Picard is a lot more of a diplomat than Kirk. 
I would have to go with Kirk for the win.
