PostSat Aug 02, 2003 3:29 pm    The Captain

The Captain

Alone but surrounded, loved and hated both

You fill the center seat.

You are the Captain of your ship, your crew

Their lives depend on you, your decisions.

All eyes and ears are on you now

Red lights flashing, sirens blaring.

The heat of battle... a distress call from a near-by colony

Your ship is closest and you respond

You ship rocked by enemy fire, consols exploding, your ship being torn apart

You have but only a second's breath to decide

Do you withdraw and save yourself, your crew, your ship

Or do you try to defeat your enemy, with certain death spelled out for you.

Your crew is loyal. No one will argue either way.

You must decide to run or fight, before it's too late for either.

Your ship is strong, quick, nimble, but heavily out-gunned.

Lives depend on you and your decision

If you run,you endanger the coloy below you, but you save your crew

If you fight, you will most likely lose the battle, and the lives of those around you, but you may hold of the enemy long enough for reinforcements to arrive.

You must weigh the outcomes, the lives

Sacrifice two thousand colonists to save two hundred crewmen

Or sacrifice your crew to give the colony a fighting chance

It's ethics against tactics

Tactics say retreat, survive to fight another day

But ethics state "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few"

You must decide

Logic versus Honor

Time is up, decision made: you and your crew are an Acceptable Loss

You must do everything you can to save the colony, even if you must die to save them

That's what it is to be... The Captain.

Keep you eyes open for another work here. I'm going to be putting some of the novel---a Star Trek novel of course---up, get some feedback on it.

I'm not sure. I'm in the middle of the 1st chapter, but I've written a prologue to it. It's about 7 pages long!

Okay, but it isn't finished? You have to make it last for 50000+ words to be able to call it a novel. (and then you can send it in somewhere)

Wow!!! Ok, so it's not a novel yet <it's at 233 words>, but it is a long book.
