Wed Jun 04, 2003 10:34 am LIVERPOOL: European Capital of Culture, 2008 |
|
OK, this is where your friend Danni gets seriously patriotic. I am a Scouser (someone from Liverpool, England, in case you didn't know), always have been, always will be. This morning, at 8.10am BST, Liverpool was named European Capital of Culture 2008. They beat Newcastle/Gateshead (which is where I happen to live) and the other 4 Centres for Culture which I can't remember at the moment.
Before the limit on sig images came in last year, My signature had the Liverpool's Culture bid logo in it. With the slogan "The world in one city" (which is sooooo true... I've yet to go to somewhere with a more diverse mix of people than Liverpool) and it's amazing architecture, music, sport, nightlife, people, museums, art galleries, theatres, the Phillamonic Hall... ok, you get the point, but it means it was the most worthy place to win.

There you go with another stereotype, one that we've managed to disprove time and time again...

Every year one country gets to host the Capital of Culture for Europe. In 2008 it's Britain's turn... and Liverpool's got it.
