PostThu Jul 24, 2003 1:30 am    USS Destiny *updated by me daily..most of the time*

NOTE: You are able to put your perceptions of this. You're also able to tell me how I'm doing here. But until I firmly place the story plot down, please do not add onto it yet. Thanks!

Chapter 1 - "Off We Go"

Captain Omega, Captain of the Sovereign Class USS Destiny, was in his readyroom in the Utopia Panitia Yards in Mars, waiting for orders from Starfleet Command back in San Fransisco on Earth to launch. It's mission: to take down the rest of the Dominion forces left in the Gamma Quadrant. He was just about to replicate another glass of frappacino, when Commander Anakin Groundrunner, first officer of the USS Destiny, hails the readyroom.

NOTE: Captain Omega will further be called "me" in this, as I take the roll as the captain.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________
As I respond, I feel a little bit anxious. This is my first assignment as a captain on a starship...and I've never been on anything bigger than an Ambassador Class when I was stationed on the USS Excalibur. I was a Lieutenant then.

Me: Yes, Commander?
Anakin: Sir, priority 2 message from Starfleet. Should I route it to your readyroom, sir?
Me: Go ahead.

Admiral Janeway: Kris...
Me: Admiral Janeway...very nice to see you again Ma'am.
Janeway: You know I hate the ma'am...
Me: Yes ma...I mean, admiral. Good news, I hope..
Janeway: Well...yes, and no.
Me: I didn't expect anything but...
Janeway: You're ordered to launch as soon as your refits are complete in the shipyard. You're then ordered to go to the Bajoran Wormhole and head into the Gamma Quadrant. Starfleet intelligence provided intel that shows at least 3 battle cruisers there. We have a fleet of 10 on its way to neutralize it. They should be reporting back within the next hour with their status.

Me: Yes admiral. When are we due back to the friendly Federation space again?
Janeway: You're able to stay out there for as long as 6 years. After that, you're ordered to come back.
Me: 6 years? Do you think the mission will take that long?
Janeway: Maybe longer. However, we will be sending the USS United Frontier after 6 years has passed. It's an Intre..
Me: Yes, I know. An Intrepid Class vessel. Captain Andrew Paris if I'm not mistaken.
Janeway: You're not.

I got up to get his cappuccino. I then turned around.

Me: Well Admiral, I'll get back to you when we're ready to launch.
Janeway: There's one more thing Captain...
Me: Yes ma...admiral?
Janeway: You will be at minimum...7 months away from friendly ships. You need to be careful out there...because help is a long ways away.
Me: Yes maam.

An hour and a half passes. I walk onto the bridge, where my bridge crew is preparing to launch. Crewmen are walking in and out with reports to their superiors, and everything looks as a go.

Me: All hands, status report.
Ensign Digi: Impulse engines are online and ready to go sir. Warpcore is active and ready to go. Thrusters are a go..along with maneuvering thrusters.

Slugger: Weapons are ready to be charged. Shields are ready to be charged. Alert system is working perfectly. All security measures are in place.

Felix: Everything in Engineering is a go sir. Power is at 100%...backups at 100%. Neural Relay System is a green...go sir.

Darkmaster: Sensors are at 100%. Short range and long range are fully operational and currently scanning. We currently have 30 probes aboard, and all are accounted for. Everything's a go sir.

Me: Hail the shipyard.

Commodore Granger: Hello Captain.
Me: Hello sir. How are the repairs sir?
Granger: Well, we're just about...done..

The ship makes one rough shake.

Granger: Well, we're done. That was just the docking clamps dis-engaging.
Me: Great. Are we cleared for departure?
Granger: All clear. Remember, 10,000 kilometers before..
Me: Before engaging in any warp activity, I know.
Granger: Just making sure...have a fun and safe trip captain.
Me: Oh yes..fun fun.

The commodore gives a short laugh

Granger: Over and out.

Me: All hands, prepare for departure. I'm not going to lie to you here..this is a dangerous mission...maybe even a psychotic mission. But that's what makes you all the finest officers in the fleet. May this mission be a safe, and memorable one. -:-Ends Comm-:-

Me: Ensign Digi, take us out. 1/2 impulse. Once we're in warp clearance range, engage at maximum cruising speed for the Bajoran Wormhole.

Digi: Aye sir.
Me: Lieutenant Darkmaster, scan the area for any shortcuts. It's a 3 month journey to the bajoran wormhole...let's see if we can cut that down with a little wormhole or something...

Darkmaster: Yes sir.
Me: Alright..let's go.

A minute passes, and we're clear to warp.

Me: Alright. Let's do it. Engage, maximum cruising speed.

I give a couple more commands, and then walk into my readyroom. I then look at the stars, amazed at how fast the slower moving streams of light is moving behind the ship. This looks like a long mission...

Chapter 2 - "Temper, Temper"
Captain's log, stardate 57589.8. It has been one month since we have un-docked from the Utopia Planitia yards in Mars. For some reason, it seems that something that was once a part of me, was left there. I spent 3 years there...met so many friends. Their influences will forever be in my heart. However, a new threat approaches. We have to pass the Neutral Zone to get to the Bajoran Wormhole, and some Romulan activity has been detected. What Romulans want on our side of the Neutral Zone is beyond me, but Starfleet strictly forbids it. We are on our way to Rendezvous with the USS United Frontier, an Intrepid class vessel and our partner ship. God, this isn't the way I wanted to spend my captain days...Computer, pause recording.
At that time, someone was signaling that they want in the readyroom. I couldn't imagine who could want into my readyroom at 02 hundred hours, but I wasn't going to keep them out there.
"Enter," I say, with fatigue and frustration in my voice. And Commander Anakin could tell. He was all over it...even though he was a borg drone, he can tell emotions.
"Something wrong, captain?" He asks, mostly in concern for my well being.
"No, nothing to be concerned about Commander." I said, trying to sound as convincing as possible.
"Well sir, sensors have confirmed a micro-wormhole. It's around 1.4 lightyears straight ahead. It just appeared 2 hours ago. I thought you would want to know about it."
"Thank you commander. Make the necessary adjustments, and let's go see if we can use it after we get done with the Neutral Zone."
"Aye sir..." The commander said. However, he still remained there.
"Is there something else, Commander?" I ask, knowing what the answer would be.
"Sir, I've noticed in the past week that your...short fuse has gotten shorter. Do you need some leave time?"
"Commander, I'm fine. I think I've just...overworked myself." I said, half yawning. I, myself knew that I needed leave, but I couldn't take it. Not only after a month in our mission. I have a crew and my ship to maintain.
"Captain, maybe you should see the doc.."
"I'M FINE DAMNIT!" I screamed, realizing what I had done halfway through the exclamation.
"Ok...Sorry to have bothered you sir." He said, turning about and walking out of the readyroom and back onto the bridge.
"Commander...wait. Please..." I said, trying to get him to turn around. No use, I'd hurt a borg's feelings. That's not as easy as it sounds.
With myself as a ticking time bomb, my first officer angry at me, and I have no clue what I have gotten myself into, it looks like this could be harder than I thought...

These chapters are good. No "blind" spots were things are going too slow, and the characters seems trustworthy.
I'm sure you can make a good, long story out of this.

Impressive. I see that you know startrek, Its a starter. but CPT omega. not really a unique name, if you know what I mean, Also you can make the chapters longer,

But it impressive ensign, You'll have to let me read it when its done. I'll read it next time I am on prisoner duty.

Yes, I know it isn't original. However, most names aren't.

It was my first ST name and I'm sticking with it.

As for the chapers being longer: I'll take that into consideration. Thank you for your insight.

Very nice story.
I like the part when " You" were talking to Janeway, and she told you that she did not liked being called Ma'am. Then he started saying Ma...Admiral

Chapter Three: Tick Tock Goes the Clock

As I walk onto the bridge, I could see that the crew was bored. They still had another 2 months before they get to the Bajoran Wormhole. I knew that traveling at warp speed for 3 months wouldn't be fun, but I had no idea what kind of toll this would take on the crew. It has gotten so bad that some of the bridge crew is reading books while they're on duty..I wish I could provide more for my crew, but I can't go and start battles.

"Status report, Mr. Slugger" I ask, almost repeating the answer that I get so many times over.

"Nothing on sensors sir. We should be in the neutral zone in about 4 days." He answered. "3 days 23 hours too long, in my book" I heard him say under his breath.

4 days left before we can get a small chance of some kind of action. Well, we've gone 32 days, what can another 4 be?

Captain's Log, Stardate...oh god, I've lost count. We have 1 more day before we reach the Neutral Zone. The USS United Frontier has given us coordinates and we are on our way. I've increased the speed to warp 9.8 because I just can not take this any longer. Sitting on this god forsaken ship for one month, doing absolutely nothing is terrible. I'm just about ready to take all the shuttles out and try and tow the ship to make it go even the slightest bit faster...pause log.

As I paused my log, I went over to get a cold soda from the replicator, when I looked at one of the LCARS panels. I saw a red blinking light on the sensor readings, usually meaning a temporal distortion or a picked up cloaking frequency. I was just about to go to the bridge when I was hailed by engineering.

"Felix to the Captain" I heard over the intercomm system.

"Go ahead Commander." I answered, already knowing what was coming next.

"Sir, we've picked up a cloaking frequency. It's right off of our bow sir."

"Yes, I can see that on the sensors. Try hailing on all subspace channels. Computer, yellow alert". My god, the sound of yellow alert from my throat was the best thing I've said since my validictorian speech back in the academy.

As I walk onto the bridge with an extremely large grin on my face, I felt a sense of sickness in my stomach. It was due to the fact that I'm actually enjoying not knowing what's out there. This thing could be a new romulan ship, and it may be able to kill us in one shot...and I love the fact that I didn't know if it could.

"Status Report" I said, and this time I was sure I'd get a better response.

"Sensors confirmed. It is a cloaking frequency. It looks as if...it could be..Wait, it's decloaking!" Darkmaster just about yelled it. I couldnt' blame him..30 days on a ship going nowhere at faster than light speed..how ironic.

"Well, let's see who it is." I said, in extreme anticipation.

"Maybe we can give him a "Welcoming" present." Slugger joked, half becasue he's Slugger, and half because...well, no. It's all because he's Slugger.

Why...those were the questions I was asking myself. Why...Why did it have to be the United Frontier, and not some newly discovered race trying to kill us because we've invaded their space.

"Sir, they're hailing." I heard the disappointment in Digi's voice. However, no one was as disappointed as I was.

"Alright, put them through."

"Captain! Go to warp, NOW! They're coming back around!" Captain Andrew TParis screamed over the viewscreen.

"Andrew, what's going.." I tried to get out, but I couldn't

"Go to warp, NOW!" He screamed again, as he went back into cloaking.

"You heard the captain. Head for the nearest planet. Maximum warp. Engage!"

I had no clue what was going to happen next. We were running from an unknown something, and I was loving it. We didn't know what was going to happen, but I knew it was going to be exciting. However, I had no idea it was going to be filled with extreme fear as well...

Chapter 4 - Surprise, Surprise!

"How? How did we drop out of warp? We don't just "Drop out of warp" ensign!" I screamed, looking on the viewscreen for something. Sensors picked up nothing and neither did the viewscreen, but something was out there. I could feel it in my gut.

"I don't..know sir! We have a very stable warp field and everything....we should be going warp 9.99..but we just aren't!" He screamed back. I could see it was mostly in excitement.

"Full impulse. If we can't outrun them at warp, we'll have to do it in impluse." I said. "Red alert. All hands, get to battlestations". Those klaxxons sounded like the ocean shores of Bermuda on a warm spring day..They were beautiful!

"Sir, I think I may be able to explain it..." Darkmaster said, with quite a shocked state. "Sir, I believe we're sitting in some sort of..cloaked ne..." The ship shook, sparks flew.

"What the HELL was that?" I asked, half in my chair and half on the floor.
"I have absolutely no clue.." Felix answered. The ship shook again.
"Structural integrity is at 90% sir!" He screamed.
"What the hell? Is it the nebula?" I asked. Back in the academy, I've heard of extreme gravity nebulas capable of squeezing the outer hulls of ships until they breach.

"Umm...No sir, I believe it's the Behemoth putting some sort of tractor beam off of our port..." Darkmaster answered.

"WHAT?! A Behemouth! Species 8472? What are they doing in the Alpha Qua..." I tried to finish, but I was face on the floor. Blackness hit like a wave of never-ending dispair. I was out.

Chapter 3, Part II

"Honey, I'm home!" I say, as I walk through the doors into our 3 room house. A long day at the academy indeed..Whoever thought of holding a 30 pound compression rifle for 3 hours should be shot with his own weapon...
"Hey swee..." *kiss* "tie.. How was your day?" She asked. She could see it in my eyes before my response. "Aah, that kind of day, huh.."
"Yes. It's days like these that I'm glad I only have 6 hour days."
"Aah. Well, you'll be happy to hear what's for dinner. It's your favorite...wake up."
"Huh?" I ask....in the weird rema.....wait, there it is again..
"Wake up....Kris, wake up....wake UP!" the voice said in my head. It sounded familiar...very...familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it...."
"Honey, are you ok?" my wife asks, looking at my blank expression as I stare at the wall.
"Um, yes. I was just...in deep thought." I lie. "When's dinner dear?" I ask, as she looks worridly at me.
"In 20 minutes."
"Good, that'll leave me enough time to go take a shower." As I got into the shower, another vision. It hit extremely hard. It swirled around me, like I was actually there...I was...on a biobed. Wait...no, it was a regular bed. No....it was a bio...I don't know. I just...
"Honey...dinner time.." I hear my wife say outside of the bathroom. "I would say wash up, but since you're in the shower...I only have to say WAKE UP!" ...that voice. I can't put my finger on it...Oh my god, I'm going crazy!
