in TOS they were using low quality antimater, with small focusing crystals, My TNG they had discovered methods to refine the antimater, and were using much bigger crystals to focus it. In voyager they were using plasma, not antimater, so thats way outada ball park.

I thought you said at the beginning of Voyager... after all, this *is* the Voyager board. Anyway, I've never seen TOS before, so I wouldn't know.

Lets not get into this, I never liked TOS anyways.

But back to the topic, its all a matter of the color of the particles in the core itself, simple enough. You can get into all of the different Matter, Anti-Matter, Plasma, etc. etc. but Ya know, for a guy who asks too many simple questions, ya gotta give simple answers.

What he means I think is why did the colour of voyagers warp core change from a colourful one in the first few episodes in the first season, to a more pure blue one after that. I tryed to find a few pictures, but I can't find them.

The colour change was from a colourful pink, red, blue slowly swirling one, to a fast swirling blue one.

A good tech explanation that I saw somewhere else is that they cannot mine high enough grade deutirium, so they have a small compromise on A/AM reaction, so that does result in a colour change. The reason they cannot obtain fine quality deutirium is because starfleet refines the fuel or something, or goes through a quality control process.

But, of course it would be something to do with the shows budget, or something similar non tech.
