Bones!

Yeah! My fave one on TOS! I like him because he always says what he thinks and does not care what others think about him...
And of course his discussions with Spock! He is the only character that tries really hard to discuss with a Vulcan

And Kirk wasn't? if it wasn't for spock and expecialy Mc Coy Startrek wouldn't have lasted long enough to become a series. Captain Pike would have been a much better selection.

that is a matter of opinion. Simply because it is old doesn't mean it is bad. None of them were bad actors. Now let's get back on topic people.

I love these quotes:

"I'm a Doctor, not a __________!"
and
"He's dead, Jim."

McCoy's great, but McCoy and Spock together is hilarious. He's my fave doctor.

Too many times? It was so popular it carried over into all of the other series.

As someone who hasn't seen every episode of TOS, I'm curious- is there a reason why McCoy's nickname is "Bones"?

It's a reference to the term 'sawbones.'

Everybody got it at the time TOS aired because that's what they always called doctors in the westerns, which were very popular at the time. By the way, Deforest Kelley's best work was playing bad guys in westerns.

A bit of trivia:
Deforest Kelly was an avid smoker when TOS was filmed. He argued with Roddenberry to have McCoy smoking 'Heatharettes' - a futureistic cigarette full of vitamins and stuff - during the show so he could smoke during filming.
Roddenberry vetoed the idea.

I liked bones, he was one of the best doctors. He did say what was on his mind, but was careful on how he said it. That is what makes a good doctor.
