What kind of name is Gates McFadden anyway? What twisted mind would name a child "Gates?" I can only say that if I had grown up with that name, I would've done my parents in at a very early age.

Well also look at it this way, It is better than having a name that is owned by 5 million people, and ten others in your class. Thats what I tell myself because I have an even stranger name.

Cheryl Gates McFadden always used Cheryl in credits until TNG, I think. I am also led to believe that Gates was her mother's maiden name?

I think it's quite sweet how her son is called James Cleveland McFadden Talbot, but everyone calls him Jack. She says he's probably going to call himself "Randolph or something". I wonder if the Jack bit is just a coincidence????

Well my uncle is named James but we call him Dave. Don't really know how that occurred....He's a big Star Trek fan too! But yeah why does Gates son have so many names? How many times did the woman marry?!?!

James- First name
Cleveland- I guess is his middle name, she comes from Cuyahoga Falls OH
McFadden- is obvious and
Talbot- is her husband's name, it's a double barreled name.
