They aren't actually written by William Shatner. The actual authors are Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens. Shatner just advises them on what direction he wants the stories, and his character in particular, to take.
The complete list in order is:
The Ashes of Eden (Final voyage of the Ent-A)
The Return (Kirk is controlled by a Borg/Romulan alliance)
Avenger (A plauge threatens the galaxy)
(The mirror universe trilogy, based on the TOS and DS9 eps in that 'verse)
Spectre (Kirk works with Mirror Janeway)
Dark Victory (Kirk works with and also fights Mirror Kirk)
Preserver (Um...something about the First Federation)
Captain's Peril (Kirk and Picard take a vacation on Bajor)
and coming soon,
Captain's Blood

Perhaps it's just me but I always think that Shatner tries to detract from other characters so as to make Kirk seem better in a similar way that I believe that Stackpole of the Star Wars novels, detracts from other characters to make his character, Corran Horn, look better.
I find it hard to believe that at Kirk's age he is still able to jump around beating people up, etc. Although I havn't read all the books so perhaps I shouldn't comment.

According to Shatner, he had alot more to do than "advise". Besides, the books have the same tone as others he has written, w/out JGR-S.
Anyway, they were great.

i really think that those shatner books, especially return could of all been turned into the next several trek movies, they were very well done and shatner has such great screen presence vs picard of the tng
