I have an idea, listen to this.

I just watched "All Good Things", and looked at the Enterprise-D Refit, and I remembered the post about the third nacelle. Then, it just came to me.

The Nacelles produce a warp field, correct?

What if they added the third warp nacelle to reinforce the warp field so that it could tolerate even more stresses, and although this part is farfetched, with an even bigger reactor (warp core) pumping out more juice, along with a warp field that is able to stand more stresses, you could go faster?

And I have come up with an Idea about the whole, Warp 13 situation. The warp scale goes:

Warp 1
Warp 2
Warp 3
Warp 4 (I just wanted to make the list )
Warp 5
Warp 6
Warp 7
Warp 8
Warp 9
Transwarp

It is possible that they redesigned the warp scale, but even more reasonable, what if they crossed the transwarp threshold, and simply divided out the different speeds, continuing them out as Warp speeds?

So, what do you tech trekkies think? Do keep in mind, its Midnight, I just worked out, my arm hurts, so if I re-iterate myself somewhere, forgive me, so if I re-iterate myself somwhere, forgive me, so if I re-iterate myself somewhere, forgive me.

Wow, How could I think that up? Let me rephrase what I meant, I thought about it this morning.

The Warp Core Creates the Warp Field, and The Warp Nacelles allow the ship to travel faster than light speeds.

The Warp Field could be reinforced through increases in technology, and the third nacelle could be used to help increase the speed, I mean, hey, having two engines in a car doesn't make it go faster but it allows it to achieve the same speed easier, so if you added the third nacelle, you could achieve the speed easier than just with two nacelles. Apparently, I like saying the word Nacelle.

I don't think the third nacelle would help in practice. It was a fantasy made by Q. The sovereign class can reach warp 9.99~ with just 2 nacelles, each newer ship is getting slightly faster without needing a third nacelle.

But I think he may be getting somewhere with this. I've actually added a few more Nacelles to some of my ship designs because I've thought of nearly the same thing he has. And I remember back in the times of TOS that a few federation designs had a third nacelle back then, and it did make them faster if I recall.

Of course, but then again, in that timeline, the Enterprise D wasn't destroyed.

But don't you think that it could go faster with a third nacelle?

No, I don't think so, I just don't think it works that way. What would the difference be with 2 larger nacelles or 3 smaller ones. I think the galaxy was refitted to go into warp higher by adding a third nacelle, they probally could have modified the 2 existing ones, or build a new ship.

Ah, but Admiral Riker said that he could have any ship, and he wanted the Enterprise. So, possibly, to keep up with the technology, he had it refitted. And it didn't quite look like a larger nacelle. I do see what your saying, with the 2 smaller vs. the one large.

Well maybe the third nacelle could do something else besides just accelerate the ship...don't ask me what it could do, just something.

Well, if anyone knows turbochargers in a car, it may work like this. They started with turbo cars in the 80's, and they basically had 1 big turbo. There was an issue with lag, so some cars started to come out with 2 smaller ones. When the lag issue got better with lighter fins etc, there was less of a need to have 2 turbos.

Ok, so not excally the same thing, not that accurate, but it is sort of the idea. The same principal may be the same with warp nacelles.

If its done right, the two engines make the car a hellova lot faster.

Third Nacelle? I was wondering about that when I came across a Galaxy class StarShip with a third nacelle

Its from 'All good things', also on an alternate timeline.

it's already been done......... but they can't go that fast yet
