According to our scienctists today, warp travel is impossible. Nothing can go faster than the speed of light! But....as we've seen some things people thought were impossible became true, as our technology advances.

here in australia, scientists have been able to break the speed of light somehow, 4 time faster so far. so the 'theory' has indeed been proven wrong according to this.

Man, if that's the case, I need to get a job in Australia when I get out of college.

According to NASA, there are still 3 breakthroughs that need to be made:

1. Discover new propulsion methods that eliminate or dramatically reduce the need for propellant.

2. Discover how to attain the ultimate achievable transit speeds to dramatically reduce deep space travel times.

3. Discover fundamentally new on-board energy production methods to power propulsion devices.

Information taken from NASA's Warp Drive When? site.

Actually they found some proof that e does not equal mc squared because light is not a constant. Making it possible to go faster than the speed of light. that would be so cool if they finally got past the speed of light

I'm glad we DON'T have the technology today. The human race hasn't come along as far as I'm sure most of you have hoped and some of you have realized. Face it, if we had the technology, everyone would argue over who got it, who got to colonize what, eventually, there would be many civil wars and earth would probably end up being nothign but a few chunks of rock floating in space.

no. just one step above. Which is a realist, which puts all you one step above from a optimist to a diluted optimist

If there was a holodeck. I'm sure bill gates holoimage would be the most used in simulations to get rid of anger/plan assassinations

I personaly would love to punch Mr. Gates

I would love to have some advanced technology to myself. I would explore the galaxy in a Sovereign-class starship and use my weapons to blow up asteroids. If not then I'd be happy with some kind of holodeck technology. It would instantly replace all forms of entertainment that exist today!

The question is could we really handle it. I mean if we could create our own reality with that kind of accuracy, it would be very easy for many people to loose grip with reality.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but we're going to be stuck on this ball of dirt in our lifetime.

The man who came up with that theory did so on a soccer field in Cambridge while nursing a hangover. I love Discover magazine!
