Wed Jun 04, 2003 1:09 pm Some notes... |
|
Here at STV we have a basic set of rules for members to follow during their stay here. While their are no rules specific to the tech forum, it is still a requirement to follow the general rules. The rules are all over the site. This topic has the up to date rules.
A few notes I would like to add. Regarding the use of source information, obviously just posting a simple fact like the Enterprise-E is 685m long is fine, but if you just copy and paste the entire specs directly off a website it would be nice to at least have the source URL.
A second note regarding websites such as the Daystorm Institute Technical Library. Mr Kennedy from DITL has accurately researched technical information on various starships, technologys etc, but most of it is 'Speculation'. Up the top right of his website, there is a key: Canon Facts Backstage Info & Speculation. Basically, what I am saying is try not to treat everything as canon just because it's on his website, thats what that key and text colors are for.
I would like your comments on this. If there are any suggestions you would like to make please feel free to post them here.
I encourage everyone to contribute towards the friendly star trek discussions. Enjoy your stay.

You know I was thinking, perhaps we could have like small contests with judges, perhaps moderators. You know like a contest asking you to "Think up the Coolest (insert item or part)" and stuff like that. You know, something specifically for this part of STV.com. This is just a suggestion so you know.

Hey, that is actually a good idea. We could do it on a weekly basis.

I will propose it, but this does not sound like trek tech. What sort of contest do you have in mind?

Hmmmm, perhaps we could have a situation, and using technology from the show or other cannon sources (providing references of course), we could solve it. But that would be like, hard core tech trekkers only. I mean, I don't think your basic trekker could do it.

That is sort of what this forum is about anyway. Well when someone makes a topic asking what something tech related does, they get input from other members.

But we could have a point system. To see who the best is

Maybe. We would have to find a way so that it does not turn into a popularity contest, though.
Might be a good idea.
You can create a topic if you want to start it, and we can always see how it goes. Would be good to spice up the tech forum a bit. It's kinda dead in here lately

Perhaps trivia directed toward a random poster, hopefully a commoner.
