No, thank God. Well, there are the SATs if you want to get into college, but there's no one huge test.

Humm... we have nation tests (called SATs, amazingly!) at the ages of 7, 11 and 14. Then we have GCSEs (of NVQ's, which are the newer tests) at 16, A-Levels (or AVCEs) at 18 and then university, but you are allowed to leave school at 16.

I didn't do the 7 year old sats (they didn't have them then) I got a Level 5 in each of Maths, English and Science at 11 (Level 4 is the average), Got Level 7 in Maths and Science and Level 6 in English at 14 (Level 6 is average) and for my GCSEs, well, I got a B in Maths, English, Dual Science, Geography, IT, French, and Business Studies, a C in English Literature and History, and a D in Music. I'm now doing a Dual award AVCE in ICT and am going to do A-Level maths next year (the one year course).

I've heard from my friends in public school that they really hate them. (I'm in school in RI, but I don't live there! lol) I don't agree with forcing kids to take tests to graduate:m I think it takes the joy out of learning.

When I was in school, grade school through to about tenth grade, we were required to take an annual test for "placement" within the state and the country. I don't remember what they were called but it took three or more days to take them usually and they were all day tests.
