Imagine this:
First, you get some huge tube things jammed into your skin, then they pour millions of little nanoprobes into your bloodstream. These nanoprobes immediatly cluster together, building borg implants which tear at your insides until they find a suitable place to attatch. They then pop through your skin from the inside and then poke through again from the outside. Then, if that isn't enough, these nanoprobes cut their way into your nervous system, causing pain that is unimaginable. You feel as though your body has caught fire from within, but you cant even scream because the nanoprobes have effectivly paralyzed you so they can do their dirty deed. After that, an uplink is clamped to your brain, and billions upon billions of voices invade your thoughts. They instantly know everything about you, your fears, your desires, your dark secrets....etc. All that is erased from you as you are forcibly joined with the collective. from that point on, you are insignificant, you are no longer a person, you are only a drone that can be used or discarded at the whim of the collective. if you malfunction, you are terminated and your parts (organic and mechanical) are salvaged for future use.
Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

besides, this doesn't even include all the "enhancements" that get grafted onto you after the initial nanoprobe injection. You know, the way your arm gets hacked off at the wrist and replaced with a claw thing, the way you gat your eye carved out and replaced with a holo-imaging system, the way you get covered with the armor that fuses with your skin.....loads of fun

It's apparently very painfull, but the initial dose makes the subject docile.

Not only is it the pain from having your skin pierced with little tubules, but the fear is mostly what causes the pain. If you were about to encounter your own loss of individuality (basically death), wouldn't you scream? I would, but then I'd run up against em, Phaser's flying, and a bat'leth in my other hand. Or a baseball bat.

Yes, they do feel pain. I don't remember which, but one of Voyager's episodes saw them in a Borg vessel during a assimilation of a planet. There were screams.

according to about 5 diferent sources, When your are assimilated the nanoprobes CHANGE YOUR GENETIC STRUCTURE, so yeah it would be painfull, sorta like a realy fast case of radiation poisining, only with diferent results, go step inside a nucliear reactor if you want to see what its like...
